Lisa's Big Adventure
After just over half a day bus journey between Munich and Hopfgarten, we arrived in time for dinner. Hopfgarten is a very popular skiing village during the winter months, but much quieter at other times of the year. We were staying right opposite the wood mill, about 15 minutes walk from the centre of town. Ali, our tour leader decided that we would have a themed party that night of postbox, whereby everyone had to wear a number and we'd write messages to each other all night. Nice messages of course. So after dinner, I stuck on my number and headed over to the bar with Meg, Kristy and Eleica. Had a fun filled night with some great vodka shots, lots of nice messages and dancing too. I think that was probably my favourite night out on the whole trip as I got to spend time with some fab people and really enjoy myself.
The next day there was warnings of torrential rain so the activities were cancelled. I spent the morning catching up on some sleep and then wandered into town with Niki and Alan in the afternoon. It was a very pretty little town with a few shops, supermarket, post office etc. The best part was being able to walk around such a beautiful area and to imagine how it would be once the snow was falling. I'm very glad that I got to go there before the tourist season started as I think then it would be very crowded and you wouldn't be able to really explore like I did.
The following morning as we were leaving Hopfgarten, the drama occurred when without warning our bus started to roll down the drive, with Mark the driver still standing behind it. He took off after it and after falling and jumping back up, managed to jump on board and stop it before it rolled onto the road, unfortunately, not before it had hit another contiki bus though. Needless to say, our departure was delayed and we discovered that night that poor Mark had driven all day with a broken elbow and was taken to hospital that night for surgery.
