Lisa's Big Adventure
The Grand Canyon
I had hoped that I would be well enough to do the helicopter flight over the canyon but unfortunately I was very ill again that morning so I spend the whole morning in bed. I was extremely disappointed to have missed the flight and also the girls I'd been spending my time with had gone to watch the sunrise over the canyon. So I was feeling quite depressed and very sorry for myself.
I dragged myself out of bed around 2pm and decided to take a stroll around the rim so I could at least see some of the canyon. I was amazed at how close it was, literally two minutes away from the cabin. I talk a walk and found that what I could see of the canyon was spectacular. I can't describe the vastness of it, even from the edge it was obvious that it was massive. The red seems to glow and there is a definite feeling of spirituality to the rock. I walked for close to an hour, taking it in and soaking up the atmosphere.
The rest of the girls arrived back from their day hiking around 4pm and said they were going to go further around to see the sun set. I was determined to not miss out this time so I went with them, catching the bus around to another vantage point where we watched the sun set over the rock. It was quite simply stunning, watching the golden glow of the sun pass over the red rock and watching the darkness replace the light. Any words I use cannot describe it. So even though I didn't get to do much hiking or see it from the air, I can say that I'm very happy to have seen it as the sun set.
That night we had dinner at the lodge again and then I went back to bed - because I hadn't had enough sleep! Actually, the truth was that I desperately wanted to feel better for the next day as it was the place I was most looking forward to visiting - Las Vegas!
