Lisa's Big Adventure
Viva Las Vegas!
Departing from the Grand Canyon fairly early, we spent the first few hours on the road before we stopped at Seligman. Seligman had little there except for it being where our journey intersected with Route 66, the old road that joined the east to the west. After posing for a photo under the Route 66 sign, I browsed in the little store that sold native jewellery and preserves. Then it was time to get back on the bus and continue on towards Vegas.
We arrived in Vegas mid afternoon and while others were having a nap or getting glammed up for a night out, Pippa and I couldn't wait and headed up to the closest casino, the MGM Grand for a squiz. The site of the MGM and New York, New York on opposite side of the strip was awesome and we were very excited. We browsed through the MGM and then realised we should get back to our hotel to get ready for dinner.
Dinner was at a casino off the strip and it was one of Vegas's famous buffets. I was very disappointed that I still wasn't eating and picked at a little rice and bread. But that couldn't prevent me from being excited as we then drove up the strip, looking at all the casinos lit up by the lights. It was exactly as it appears in every movie or TV show. And yet so much better.
On the way, our tour director had planned a little surprise when we stopped at a wedding chapel boasting the sign "Jon Bon Jovi married here". We went inside to have a looked and the surprise began when Elvis appeared and started singing for us. Then he held a mock wedding ceremony for 2 people on the trip, where the lyrics were things like "do you promise to take this man and his blue suede shoes to love me tender". There was lots of singing and cheering and clapping - a great moment of my time in Vegas.
Then it was off to freemont street, the older part of Vegas for the light show that happens every hour. The street is covered by a glass ceiling and lights dazzle you in tune with music. Quite spectacular. We then headed back to the strip and went to a nightclub where I proceeded to dance for hours and hours. I'm still pretty proud of the fact that I crawled into bed at 4am after drinking water all night and having existed for the past 3 days on 2 apples, a few odd plain crackers and the little bit of bread and rice I ate at dinner. Needless to say, my head hit the pillow and that was it for me.
