Day 76 - 24th Mar - Zoo Day
Off to Australia Zoo for the day, got a free shuttle bus from Noosa to the Zoo about an hours drive. In the meantime we got to see some of the Steve Irwin Documentaries, the crocodile hunter etc, forgot how crazy he actually was! First thing we did when we got to the zoo was head over to the otters, which were really cute. The zoo is really interactive and has quite a lot of exhibits where you can see and even participate in feedings of the animals and loads of stuff about conservation and Steve Irwin's work and life etc. we went around and saw quite a few of the animals in the morning before all the feedings etc, so went to see the alligators and tortoises. Next was probably my favourite activity of the day where we got to feed an elephant fruit. It was really good to be so close to them, can't believe how docile she was, just accepting the food from everyone's hands no problems at all. After we headed to the crocisium to see the croc and amphibian show, this was the main show of the day. They had massive snakes, walked the elephants around, lots of different birds and of course the giant crocodiles. The crocodile part was the best, Terri Irwin was there and came out and did all the stuff with the croc, feeding it and dangling food in front of it so it would snap, they even made it do death rolls. Pretty scary, I definitely could not get anywhere near them, brave lady. In the middle of the Zoo there is a massive dedication to the life of Steve Irwin, documenting his life with some displays, but the most fitting tribute is the rows and rows of Khaki Australia Zoo shirts that have been signed with messages after he died from the public and all the staff at the Zoo, there were actually loads as well as paintings, poems, bears and other messages. We also got to see the feeding of the Koalas and of the Tigers, and some tiger training. Zoo was really fun day. Evening we just had a relaxing night in at the hostel, busy day.
