Day 40: after a 10 hour bus journey from cusco we arrived in Arequipa around 6:30am, we headed straight to the hostel but couldn't check in til 11 so went for a look round the main square which is very beautiful. With the cathedral and gardens and snow capped mountains in the distance. For the rest of the day we rested as we are getting picked up stupidly early for a day trip tomorrow.
Day 41: we were picked up at 2:30 in the morning to be taken to colca canyon for our day trip! Colca canyon is in the Peruvian highlands at around 3000 meters above sea level. The canyon is deeper than the grand canyon but not as wide. The canyon attracts most visitors for the huge condors that fly within the canyon. We were lucky enough to see a few of these birds, but the pictures don't give a good depiction of actually how big these birds are! After we did our spot of bird watching we did a short trek through the canyon, but we got lost as the guide had to turn back to get some people he forgot, and he told us to carry on until we reached our bus, but some how we missed the bus and carried on walking! When we eventually found the bus we headed back Down the canyon and visited the hot springs which are filled from water running down from the volcano above. After a relaxing hour at the hot springs we stopped for some lunch before making the 6 hour bus journey back to the hostel.
Day 42: today was another day of rest for us we just walked around the town for an hour or two then headed back to the hostel to watch Jurassic park! We then made our way to the bus station to make our 15 hour bus journey down to Lima.
Day 43: we only stayed in Lima for one night, and this was enough, Lima is the capital of Peru but there isn't much to do, it's just another big city. We went out for some dinner and watched the Peru v Bolivia world cup qualifier. At that was about it!
