Day 90: we were picked up nice early today to make our trip east from auckland the to hot water beach. Along the way we stopped at few little towns mainly to go the toilet to pick up supplies for a bbq tonight and toilet breaks, but later in the afternoon we stopped at a little beached called cathedral cove. where we could either go for a hike or just chill on the beach, we opted to just chill on the beach and do our first spot of sun bathing in a while! We arrived at our lodge in hot water beach in the evening and headed straight for the BBQ! After mikey cooked us up a feast we had a few drinks and played some card games before we headed down to the beach at midnight. We had to wait til midnight so the tide could go out and we could dig down in the sand for hot water and make ourselves a naturally heated hot pool!
Day 91: yet another early start today, we were all packed on the bus ay 7:30 for our trip to waitomo. On the way we made a few stops, one stop was karangahake tunnels. Here we did an hour walk along a river and through old mining tunnels. We also stopped a fruit and vege store that sold the biggest ice creams EVER! We arrived in waitomo late afternoon and after we got checked into our hostel we headed straight out to do our cave exhibition (waitomo is home to big the biggest caving system in the southern hemisphere.) our tour took 5 hours and included a 40m absail into the caves, a zipline through the glow worm cave, tubing down the under ground river and scaling two water falls to get out of the caves! We really enjoyed the tour although it was freezing it was amazing and the glow worms looked like tiny starts lighting up the cave ceiling.
