Day 104: the next couple of days we didn't get up to much as there isn't really that much to do along the west coast after along but scenic drive along the coast we arrived at our over night stop at lake mahinapua. Here we stayed at a hostel called the poo pub. The hostel and pub is ran by 87 year old les and Hejaz has the kiwi experience staying with him for over 20 years. This stop is in the middle of no where with the only entertainment being the pub so the kiwi experience came up with the tradition of holding a fancy dress party here for every bus. Our theme was anything but clothes! I went as a robot and wrapped myself in tin foil and mikey covered himself in post it notes! Les picks a winner and then win a canyon swing in queens town! Neither of us won! Les also cooked us all an amazing BBQ!
Day 105: we left the poo pub late morning so everyone could recover from their hangovers a bit. On our drive down to franz josef we stopped off for a walk along the coast and did some sealion spotting. We then stopped off for another walk along the coast to see the pancake rocks and we stopped once more around lunch time for a picnic lunch on the beach and we seen dolphins swimming in the surf! We arrived in franz josef late afternoon. Franz josef is home to new Zealand's largest glacier which we hope to take helicopter up on to tomorrow! After organ zing our trip we made some dinner and then had some drinks in the bar.
Day 106: Today we were planning on doing our helicopter and hike tour on the glacier today but it was cancelled due to low cloud and helicopter being unable to get onto the glacier. We were very disappointed to say the least. We did manager to do a hike upto the foot of the glacier and get some good views. In the afternoon we went to the hot springs and the had a couple of drinks in the bar.
Day 107: today we are making our way down to wanaka our final stop before queens town. This was probably our most science drive yet, we stopped off at a few places and got amazing views of mount cook and newzealands snowy mount ranges. We also see some of the places where the lord of the rings was filmed and the hobbit. We arrived in wanaka by mid afternoon so had time to explore this beautiful little town, we would have liked to have stayed longer but we didn't have the time. The town is situated on a beautiful reflective lake with the snowy mountains in the distance. In the evening we all went to see the hobbit since we are in new Zealand and thats where it was filmed!
