Great Barrier Reef! now in english - sorry for the mistakes, I've used google translate :-)
Thursday I went on a daytrip to the Great Barrier Reef.
We started on the boat with coffee and cake - lovely :-) To get to the Outer Reef we sailed for about 90 minutes andsome people felt the moves of the water. A British girl I went with was a major consumer of vomit bags, but fortunately staff handed out ginger pills, and my old faithful friend saved me from being getting sick :-)
When we arrived at the first stop we were a little teaching and info on the reef. And then it was on with the snorkeling equipment and explore. For everyone who has warned me against stingers: we got some very nice tight body suits, so although I did not look as nice out so I was certainly protected ... It was fantastic to see the reef and the many fish. On our second stop there was a great opportunity to see turtles and I was apparently the only one who swam in the wrong direction, so I did not get the experience with me. In return, I saw at our last stop a shark swim past below me. So cool!
After 5 hours at sea with lots of amazing experiences, good lunch and cozy company we sailed back to Cairns. It was definitely worth it to take a trip on the Great Barrier. I took some pictures with a disposable underwater camera, so images have to wait until I get to Denmark and can get them developed ...
Thursday evening I relaxed at the hostel and cooked dinner in the communal kitchen with one of my roommates. We went out to drink a beer and found a young backpacker bar selling cheap beer. The beer was okay, but I have a little too old for something like Sunny beach-style party life so we went back to our hostel to pack to check out Friday. that's how Old I've gotten! Despite age complexes, it was a really good day!
Uncle Brian, Cousin Brad and Gus the bus!
Friday I had to once again get up early. I packed my things, checked out and left my luggage in storage day at the hostel. I had booked the boathouse 6-day experiences and then it was ready for today's adventure: Uncle Brian's Adventures.
I was fetched at the hostel and came into the bus where I, along with 19 others was presented to today's guide: Cousin Brad. A typical Australian, and wildly funny guy. Aboard the bus, Gus the Bus, we started our trip to The Tablelands. First stop was in a rainforest where we saw some nasty spiders as well was the size of my hand. After that we arrived at Josephine Falls where we went through the rainforest and go to the 'bottom' of a vast waterfall. Here we had the first swim day and as a bonus garden waterfall even arranged a water slide in spite of short length was great fun. When we got out of the water we got proof that it actually raining in a rainforest. Huge regndråper galore followed us back to the bus where we soaked but in high spirits got on Gus to run the boathouse stop. Brad took care of entertainment along the way (along with a stuffed Elmo doll) and I do not think I've met someone with so much energy! He got us all together to sing and dance (!) In our seats and it was really fun.
Second stop was the Milla Milla Falls, a a'f the most photographed waterfall in Queensland. And it is a famous place as it was the scene of the music video Misterous Girl by Peter Andre himself (who, according to Bread was deported from Australia after it came out :-)) Here we swam behind the waterfall and got a nice massage when we swam through. Freaking cold, but a really good experience. Then it was time for lunch at Mister nice lunch to recharge for the rest of the tour. Fantastsik views over the Tablelands, cozy atmosphere and chat with other participants.
Next stop on the tour was a huge lake formed in an ancient volcanic crater. 65 meters deep and for a change, a relatively warm temperature (for a Dane at least). We swam again and saw a single snake on the way back to the bus (okay maybe more a big worm, but they called it a snake!)
Last stop on the tour was on a river where, if we were lucky to see the duck-billed platypus (or as the guide described them, those parts which were left over when all other animals were put together at the factory). We saw indeed one that swam past, so we are now a part of the 2% of the Australian who has seen one in nature. After a cup of hot chocolate and more cake, we went to a hostel where we were able to get out of your swimsuit and get dry at the first time in many hours. Then we went back to Cairns, with lots of good entertainment, including singing all the guys a song for the girls In order that show how happy they were that we were along for the ride ...
Really a fun and enjoyable day, and I do not think I've laughed so much at a turisttur before! Can certainly recommend anyone going to Cairns ....
Now I'm back at the hostel in Cairns, where I wait for night bus to Townsville. Tomorrow I arrive at Magnetic Island, where the day probably standing on beach relaxation.
