My first day at work turned into a nightmare. My shift started at 8.00am and I was given my uniform.I was then introduced to some of the front desk staff, given a quick tour and then spent time observing the front desk clerks in action. When they were free they would train me on different aspects of work in the front office.
I am amazed by the amount of work they do; it is not simply a question of checking people in and out and answering questions like my job form stated. The clerks have to answer phones, sort the mail, deal with complaints, communicate with every department in the resort, maintain a cash bank and open the safe for the armoured guards. They also have to know the types of RV sites, cottages, the differences between them and sell these to walk in guests.
Although the employees are friendly and tell me not to worry about the work, I feel completely overwhelmed, unprepared and on the verge of asking for a transfer to another department as I don't feel I can do this.It is completely different from a hotel, which I am more accustomed to.
