Hello!
Sorry for taking so long getting on here again, it was a mad few days. I'm not actually in Cairns but I figured I would break up the blog a bit rather than write about everything all in one. So I went for dinner at my hostel, met two old gay guys who were giving me tips on cheap ways to see the coast and what to do which was quite nice. Then I headed to bed before my early start for diving. I met one girl in my room too who seemed nice.
I got to the boat and then Emma and Steve turned up, as they'd remembered which one I was doing and decided to do the same which was nice. We got on the boat and they gave us a briefing for diving. This started to scare me, the thought of my mask filling up while I was down there, losing my mouthpiece etc etc. They have to tell you but it was scary. Oh and putting weights on you so that you sink, eek! Anyway, we did a bit of snorkelling on the reef first which was a nice intro and then he put all the equipment on us and we jumped in. He had to check we could do the 3 skills before we went down and this is when I decided to panic/freak out slightly and so did Emma, ha!
After we got over it, we slowly sank down to the bottom and he guided us along. He was holding on to us which I was quite relieved of and the view was stunning. The reef is so pretty, and I saw Nemo!!! We went as far as 8.7m which was quite cool and had photos taken while we were down there. I bought one at the bargain price of $20, rip off but when will I get to do that again?! Then a bit later they asked if we wanted to do another but I decided to save some money and stick to the snorkelling, which was again still pretty stunning. I managed to get a few photos too so I'll try to get them up at some point.
After that, we came back to Cairns and went out for dinner. We ended up staying at my hostel place, I got my free food and it was raining so it worked out easier. Then we enjoyed 2 for 1 drinks and ladies enjoyed free champagne for 1 hour served my topless waiters... fun!! :) I got my photo taken with one of them too so I'll get that up here soon too he he. We had quite a late one, met a few people along the way and then I staggered as far as my room to bed.
Another early start followed with the bus trip to Cape Tribulation. We stopped off for breakfast and I got chatting to an English girl and a German girl. We went on to walk in the Rainforest, went to Port Douglas and Mossman Gorge. Oh and the crocodile farm where I held a baby crocodile, a parrot and fed some kangaroos :) Again, photos to follow at some point! Unfortunately it rained a fair bit but it didn't 'dampen' (ha) things too much. Then I headed back and met up with Emma, Steve and invited the German girl as she was there on her own and we went for dinner. Emma and Steve had seen a couple from the diving too so they came along. We kept it civilised and just had some food and got an early night (Friday night!!) Then it was an early start to join the Oz experience crew. It was a shame to say goodbye to Emma and Steve but hopefully I'll see them again somewhere along the way.
I met a fair few people on the bus, got talking and we made our way out of Cairns!
