So we went for a walk in Wellington up to Mount Victoria, it was quite steep and a bit slippery but it had good views and we just lay in the sun at the top for a bit which was nice. Then we had some lunch and went to the museum and saw a massive squid and played a puzzle! Wellington was ok but nothing special and very windy. That night we went to Base bar for a 'few' for someone's birthday. I made him down his first ever pint of beer which is quite a claim to fame! We had a bit of a dance and then went to bed when the bar closed. Although I got woken up at 3am by some girls coming back to the room which was annoying. They shouted, turned the lights on and decided to tap me to say hello! Oh the joy of dorms! The next morning we came to Taupo which was quite a long journey. We stopped for a few views of the volcanoes and then stopped off at the airfield, where I did my SKYDIVE!!!! I wasn't too nervous and had known I was going to do it but it was still very surreal. We watched a couple of DVDs, got suited up and then got in the plane, eeeek!
We had to make our way up to 15,000ft so it was a 20min plane ride. In that time we got slipped on to our divers, they told us what was going to happen and we had oxygen masks as we were so high up. Then we had to edge to the edge of the plane, one by one and hang our legs out of the door! The door opening was so crazy, just seeing how high up we were. Believe it or not, I wasn't actually that scared, it didn't feel real. I was 3rd to go. You have to tuck your neck back into the diver so that you don't knock them out - imagine!! The feeling of jumping out the plane was just so surreal, I'd never be able to describle it. Just imagine falling out of a plane at 120km/h and not being able to breathe! We were tumbling out and everything, then the camera lady appeared in front of me and I gave her some waves for the camera, managed to just about get my 'Down It' hands in, although the pressure was so strong, I couldn't get my hands together! The freefall was for about 1min and then the parachute opened and it was pretty calm floating down to the ground. He did some turns in the air which was again another weird feeling but actually quite fun!
I'm so glad I did it and it was an amazing experience although I'm not sure I'd repeat it, ha!
That night I was shattered, I think the adrenalin took it out of me. I came back, had some dinner and then had a couple at the bar and went to sleep.
This morning I got up early for a bus and went black water rafting at the Waitomo caves. It was really good fun, you go along the water in a rubber ring, jump off waterfalls backwards into the dark and see glow worms! I'm glad I did it but now I'm shattered again. Next bus is tomorrow for Rotorua!
