We'll have our make up on and make our hair look pretty..we're gonna boogie all night, down in Atlantic city! Yeah!
Sooo we were an hour away from the city that's always turned on....Atlantic City baby! We were in the zone to party the night away at Vegas's younger brother city. Wooop!
Check in wasn't until 4pm so we had a few hours to kill. The sun had found a way of shining and it was a beautiful day once again! we strolled along the pier, passing all the big casinos and bars. We fancied a nice cocktail to celebrate the sunshine! So a quick visit to the house of blues was where we got one. Hurricanes were our choice...it was a bit to cherryish for moi but went down well none the less.
After our beverages we continued our walk along the pier passing all the big hotels...trumps taj mahal, Caesars palace, trump tower and the Monopoly casino. A marathon had just finished outside monopoly and it seemed pretty busy inside so we wandered on in. It was NFL Sunday so the bar was packed plus it was happy hour so we stopped for a drink and watched a bit of American football. After a little gamble on the slots we had a browse in the shops along the seafront. OMG it's incredibly tacky...you can tell it's the area of Jersey shore...it's been compared to Blackpool, I wouldn't know that as I have never been but if it's anything like here ten it's tacky! They had hoodies, tshirts and even baby clothing with the phrases... 'yeah buddy' or 'come at me bro!' all phrases from Jersey shore. Aled and Huw would have gone on a spending spree I'm sure. But the baby clothing?? Are you serious? Who would dress their babies in that s***! Crazy haha!
We decided to get some food before going to get ready so went for a cheap meal on the sea front. We were looking for fish and chips but there weren't any! Bad times. We had pizza and shrimp instead. The waiter was having a bad day...he had 3 tables orders wrong, brought people wrong drinks and kept dropping things. We felt bad for the guy...everyone has a bad day once in a while. Bless him! I probably started crying if things went that bad for me, but he kept it together and carried on happily.
On our walk back to the hotel i was petrified by the amount of stupid seagulls around the place! It was my worst nightmare. Why don't they become extinct already! They are a bloody nightmare.
We had a little nap time when we got to the hotel, 'just friends' was on the tv so we had that on in the background. I forgot how funny it is! Then the time had come to get ready...the heels made an appearance again...it was going to be a tacky version of a Vegas night out.
We were told the place to go was Borgata casino and hotel. They had a club called Mixx which had their party nights on Sundays so thats where we went. We were very excited to experience it.
The taxi pulled up and off we went to the club. We were slightly early but we were reassured the place would pick up. On entrance the bouncers gave us a free entry ticket. It rocks being a girl sometimes. It wasn't like Vegas in the sense if getting free drinks though. We ordered vodkas and it was far from cheap! $10 for just one small single vodka and coke. No wonder they let us in for free they knew that we'd be paying through the roof for drinks. Crikey! Luckily for us we'd had a lot of pre drinks so we didn't need that many out. Two was the most we bought. We did ask someone how much it was to buy a bottle so we could get a seat but we politely declined as it was $250... How expensive!! Don't even know why we asked haha!
The place picked up about an hour or so after our arrival. When the dancefloor got busy we joined it to bust a few moves. I can tell you now we did not fit in...everyone was dancing normally in small groups but me and Liz? We were dancing like we had just been released from a crazy house. No joke it's embarrassing to even think of it. When 'party rock anthem' comes on the radio now, we have flashbacks... and not good ones. Haha!
Half way through the night a guy came across the room to ask us to join him for a drink. I have no idea why he asked us...he came over when we were dancing like gimps. But we didn't refuse. It was free drinks, it would have been rude not to go. It was his friends birthday so there was a small group of people there. We barely spoke to them and just ended up drinking their drink haha. Good times. We left after one to many, but it was definately a good night! Atlantic city did not fail us.
In the taxi ride home we ordered pizza. Liz had read the menu in the room and knew it was open until 4am. We knew exactly what we wanted so ordered it in the cab so it would arrive sooner. The only thing was, when we got in we must have fallen asleep straight away because the next thing I remember was waking up in the morning with missed calls in my phone. The pizza must have turned up but we most definately didn't get it, neither of us were awake for it haha. What a wasted journey for mr pizza man. Oops!
It wasn't until checkout time,12pm, that we left and made our way to New Hampshire to see some family. We were in need of some KFC before going anywhere...and my god did we eat! We were right fatties... but it had to be done. I'm not sure the guy who served us knew how to smile at all, to be honest I don't think he knew the meaning of the words 'smile' or 'happy' or 'fun'...I could go on. He has to be the MOST grumpy person I have ever met. It was so funny. If he has any friends I will be surprised. As we walked out I felt like we should warn anyone entering the place...'warning you will leave feeling depressed and will develope some suicidal feelings!' haha!
Well slightly down in the dumps we began the looonnnngg drive to New Hampshire. Not far into our drive the oil filter light began to flash! Great news right? I'll answer that for you...no it was not! I can honestly say that I have no clue whatsoever what goes on under the bonnet of the car. We pulled over into a gas station where luckily there were men working on the pumps. Liz got out and asked where we get oil from to which they replied 'what oil regular or synthetic!'. Seriously? We had absolutely no clue. I had to call the car company to ask what sort of oil the car took. It was so embarassing. Then the guy comes over to the car asking me to pop the bonnet. Do you think I knew how? I was pulling every leaver but had to leave him find it. He called me out to show me that there was no Coolant in the car and said that it was needed. I didn't really know what it was so I just agreed to have it. Seriously I was having a major blonde moment. He also went round to explain to Liz about the coolant, explaining that it's sort of like water. That's where she handed him a bottle of our water. I just laughed...the whole situation was just a disaster. Anyway he filled the coolant and also the oil (which wasn't even empty) and then charged us $20 dollars. He knew exactly what he was doing, but I suppose we had it coming being completely clueless. After we'd paid and turned the engine back on the light was still flashing. He just said 'oh the filter probably just needs changing!' what??? We had just been completely ripped off! Not cool. When I get home I'm going to learn all the things I do not know about cars! I think it has to be done!
We continued driving and we happened to be passing New York City! Eeeek passing it was just amazing. I can't wait to go back and explore. The skyline is incredible.
We had to pay $12 dollars to cross the Washington bridge, these tolls are everywhere! They are a rip off! We paid the $12 and didn't even make it all the way across. We took an accidental detour off the bridge where I experienced driving through part of New York for the first time. We think it was around the Harlem area. Scary right? This wasn't even the city centre and drivers were crazy. I may not have experienced driving New York to the fullest but it was enough for me to know I never want to drive there again. It took us a while to get out of the city. We took a wrong turn at the wrong time...RUSH HOUR! It was just totally manic!
After getting out of one big traffic jam we went right into another one in the centre of Connecticut, which is quite an eery place especially driving through it in the dark. 'The haunting in Connecticut' kept creeping up in my mind. Scary!!
'Welcome to New Hampshire'! We had arrived, now all we had to do was find Anne's house, the first stop on our visit. Not only did we have to find it...we had to find it in the dark. It was 9.30pm so it took us a little longer than we thought to get there. A couple of wrong turns later we had arrived at our destination and were welcomed by Anne with a home cooked meal waiting for us. It had been so long since we'd had a proper cooked meal, and it was worth the wait. We even had dessert, home made apple pie! Yuuummmmyy! To top it all i got some welsh tea! Oh it tasted soo good. We had a good catch up and talked about our travels with Anne before heading to bed for a well needed sleep.
This morning I woke to poached eggs with a bagel and cup of tea. Oh how I've missed that homely feeling. So our first day has been lovely, we joined Brenda, Jody and Scott for some lunch at a cute little restaurant in Portsmouth. I'm getting better with trying new things. Mam and dad I actually ate a beef and mushroom sandwich...not only that I actually liked it! Can you believe it?
We had a quick visit at the christmas tree shop before heading back to Jody's house. I got to see Adam and Luke again and my god they have grown since I last saw them. Adam is 13 years old and is almost taller than me! On the way back to Anne's she drove us through the University of New Hampshire. She says that it's a very 'crunchy granola' area. Haha. Apparently it's one of the smaller universities but it was huge. It had so many buildings, dorms and sorority houses. It was so cool. I wish I'd experience Uni life in the US! It would have been amazing.
Back at Anne's we had some nibbles and a drink and a Girly chat. Its another early night for us tonight. We have a pamper day planned for tomorrow...a hair appointment, manicure and shopping! It feels good that we will just be doing normal things for a change.
Well anyways my driving days are now over(well in the USA). After almost 6000 miles of driving across the United States of America our road trip has come to an end. I have to say it's been AMAZING! We have seen and experienced so much in so little time. Overall me and Lizzy or 'thelma and louise' as my dad now calls us, made a great team.
We are now back in one place for two weeks. Many more great times ahead I'm sure. In the words of Natasha Bedingfield:
'...drench yourself in words unspoken, live your life with arms right open, today is where my book begins... the rest is still unwritten!'
Living life to the fullest and loving every second!
Love y'all
