'Riding along in my automobile, Liz beside me at the wheel...cruising and playing the radio, with no particular place to go!'
We weren't driving for very long before we were at the state line of Kentucky! Land of KFC. Now here's a question for you...what came first the chicken or the state? Me and liz weren't sure haha...jokes!
The state sign wasn't actually at the rest stop so we had to walk back up on the side of the motorway to get our snaps. In doing this I almost lost my right arm...and by that I mean my phone. Yes can you believe it? It fell
out of my pocket onto the grass. I retraced my steps on the way back to the car and there it was, face down on the grass. How lucky is that? What would we have done without it. Mr maps has been our saviour so far on our travels...not sure what we would do without him.
We stopped for some gas and of course some KFC. It had to be done as we were in Kentucky! It was well worth it! We were on our way to Louisville for a few hours to wander. The one way systems are a nightmare there...seriously we drove round for a good 20 minutes just trying to get to a car park. Not cool.
Louisville is pretty awesome though, a cute little town. We took the free trolley ride to the end of fourth street and had a lovely chilled beverage before walking all the way to the other end. As we walked passed a small park area crowds were gathering together with signs. I guess there was going to be a protest or something...we didn't stick around long enough to find out. Lots of police gathered around the area just waiting for something to kick off.
We walked back and forth on 4th street trying to find a Starbucks... we were craving a hot chocolate. We must have passed the fourth street live pub and club area about 6 times passing the same people on the way through. It was getting embarassing so we just went into the irish bar and guess what they didn't do hot chocolate! Bad times. A diet coke it was.
The place was picking up... apparently there was a big conference in town and thy were all out on a drinking session. We went over and asked the barman if it was going to be any good for a night out. He said yes. Sooooo....yes you guessed it we got on the phone to motel 6, booked our room and we were staying to party! I love the randomness of this trip.
It was a quick drive to the motel where we had some pre drinks and got all dolled up. We got snap happy and before we knew our carriage was waiting to take us back into town.
As soon as we got there a guy came up to us and asked us if we wanted to join them for free drinks an a game of bowling. We weren't going to turn down free drinks...are you mad? In we went. It was a sports bar which had a bowling alley. How cool? He wasn't lying when he said free drinks either they had a tab and gave us permission to order on it...obviously on the company they worked for but who cares? We weren't complaining!
One of the men kept commenting on liz's teeth, and asked her if she'd had surgery haha. For the past few weeks Liz has been using this teeth whitening tooth paste and seriously it has worked...maybe a little too well. You'll be able to spot her in the dark as soon as she smiles. It's quite funny. We got to play a game of bowling as well...and I have to say that I have NEVER played that badly in my life. I couldn't even get one pin down. I blame the alcohol it must have made me cross-eyed haha. The night flew by and after many laughs and free drinks we caught a cab home. It was a cheap night indeed. We definately got lucky in Kentucky!
We woke after a well deserved sleep and continued our drive through to Indiana. Before leaving the state we ate so much Mcdonalds I couldn't move. I had to just sit in the car park for a little while before driving again. What a hefalump I am!
The state line wasn't very far so another stop was in order. A random guy said to me as he was searching through the trash 'You think they save these cans for the deaf and blind and I use them to buy beer!' what? That doesn't even make sense. He was 100% a proper redneck.
5 minute stop and we were off again. A stop at Columbus was next on the list for us. We stopped at the welcome centre where the lady working there tried ripping us off to buy $10 cards talking about some buildings. I think I'll keep my $10 for something a bit more interesting thanks!
Liz had googled a small park and pool area which was close by. A nice afternoon in the sun would go down quite nicely so we went to find it. We got there to find that everything was shut and there was no water in the pool. So that idea went out the window.
There was a small playground though and a small go on the swings took our fancy. We became kids again for the next 30 minutes. It was fun but probably looked a little dodgy as all the other adults were there with children and there's me and Liz playing on the swings with cameras. Haha. We still had a few hours left in the village before continuing our journey. So we parked up and went to 'the garage pub grill for some drinks...non alcoholic don't panic!
A big group of women were stood outside our car chatting about something. They looked like a group of feminists. We got out and silence hit, they just stared at us. Ive never been so intimidated by a group of women before in my life. We just walked on by and hoped that our car would remain in tact for when we came back.
At the grill we had our lovely cold glasses of coke and chilled in the sunshine. The waitress brought over some menus. We were actually contemplating food and i have no idea why...I was most certainly not hungry. That Mcdonalds had filled me up...filled me up good.
A few hours later we returned to our untouched car and began to drive again. We drove all the way the town of Lafayette. We decided to stop at a movie theatre to pass some time. We saw 'what's your number' starring the sexy Chris Evans. We walked in and the place was so crowded all the seats were free. It was hard to choose where to sit haha. There were two seats at the front and I'm not sure whether they were designed for fat people or they are beds in the cinema. Me and Liz used them as beds though so it was like being on the sofa at home watchig a movie. The film was hilarious, I hadn't laughed that much at a film in a long time. I recommend it!
It was still early so we continued driving before stopping again for that yummy hot chocolate we had been craving. We miss martins chocolatier at home so we were craving some warm chocolate drops of heaven. It was from Mcdonalds though...it takes away the yumminess... slightly.
Well... after leaving I ended up going the wrong way down a one way street...how embarassing. It was dark though so not many people were around to see... I did get some random guy shout 'hey blondie you're going the wrong way!' though. State the obvious mate I knew I was, there was just nothing I could do about it.
From then on things just got from bad to worse. The car started beeping at me letting me now fuel was low, although there was still about 70miles left in the tank...then it beeped again and again telling me the tyre pressure was low. We drove along and there was a sudden loud noise...a motorbike was about to drive passed so we thought it might be that. I still pulled over to fill the tyre with air as the noise was getting louder. Liz got out and her jaw just dropped. the car tells me the tyre pressure was low... And indeed it was. It was flat to the floor! We filled it up but the air just came straight back out. Yep you guessed it we had a puncture on our hands...and I had no clue how to change the tyres on this car. Eeek.
It was 11pm, we hadn't reached a rest stop for the night and we were stuck in a car park with a punctured tyre. Luckily two men willingly helped us change it. Well we didn't help we just left them to it. It could have only happened to us...I couldn't bloody believe it! The spare tyre was so much smaller than the other tyres the car became slightly weird to drive.
We gave the men the remainder of our beers as a thank you and we searched for a rest stop to settle for the night as we were both tired and quite stroppy after the nights events.
We made it to the state line of Illinois and passed out there for a good few hours in our broken car. It was a good few hours because it wasn't until the sun shone through the window that i woke up. I called the car company and they said we could take the car to the closest airport and we could swap it...so our journey would continue in a new car. I'd only just got used to this monster. Haha.
Well the swap took place...we went down in price with a nissan. Fair swap? I don't think so. This has cruise control though so driving has gone from easy to easy peasy! A child could drive...accompanied of course hehe.
Well the weekend is upon us and we are ready to party city style in Chicago illinois. No more Honky Tonks and country western nights for us. We are back to what we know best. Oh yes! The windy city is about to blow us away!
So as Rihanna says... cheers to the freaking weekend, I drink to that yeah yeah!
Shall speak to y'all soon
