'Live as if you were to die tomorrow, learn as if you were to live forever...Don’t cry because its over, smile because it happened.'
So a day of hair, beauty and retail therapy was on the cards. A hair cut was well needed it has been almost 3 months after all. Eeek! Jody had kindly booked us an appointment so we didn't have to wait in line. We walked into the salon and there were no people our age there...so we were slightly worried. Liz stepped up first and me second. We sat in the chair awaiting our destiny! I watched in the mirror as he cut and cut and cut. There was quite a lot of hair coming off considering I asked for just a trim! After blowdrying it under she'd finished. There were no straighteners! Instead of a trim I'd left with about 1 and a half inches of the length with short short layers and a curled under do! It looked like a hairstyle I had back in junior school. I'd actually one back in time. Lizs hair looked pretty glamorous but she was livid they had put layers back in when she was growing it out. The hairstyles were fine once we'd styled them ourselves though...phew!
The search for a new dress for NYC was next on the list of to do's! It was hammering down with rain and freezing, so not the best day to shop. Days like these are duvet and film days...but no, we wandered around for a few hours and found nothing. The day clothes here are cool and really funky but when it comes to dresses or clothes for a night out there is NoTHING! Seriously. Everything is so tacky it's like looking for a dress in Nefertiti or blue star! Yuk! We tried our luck at a different mall a bit later...which was a nightmare to find by the way, for a mall it was very well hidden. We had no luck here and were pretty tired so made our way back.
We met with Brenda and Richard for a lovely evening meal at a lobster restaurant where we had some calamari and haddock nuggets. Me and Liz had to share it, there's so much food everywhere. Portions are massive! We are pretty much stuffed all the time...I think our stomachs have stretched!
Still pouring with rain outside we grabbed our duvets and finally had the duvet day (well night) we'd been longing for, watching dexter and American X factor! Stuff the UK XFactor...over here they have Steve Jones, Enrique Iglesias and Pharell all on one show... Amazing eye candy for two hours before bed! Good times!
An early morning for us...it was drop off day for the car. A sad time haha. Dolly (annes dog) was sitting on the sofa as always, to greet us with cuddles in the morning. Its so good to have a dog around the house again. I miss louis! After bagels and tea we made our way on our last journey and our last bloody tolls. It was a short journey to Portland airport...on arrival we handed the keys back and they tried adding $100 onto the original price...I think not! We went to complain at the front desk and it paid off...ended up knocking $10 off the original price haha. Not much but every penny counts aye! Haha.
Sooo no more car for us it's going to be strange. Anne and Brenda took us on a short drive to Perkins cove next. It's the cutest little village. Has lots of little shops one being a candy store. Of course we couldn't resist haha. In we went and came out with some Halloween chocolate and some salt water taffy. I've never tried it before and omg it's weird. Do you chew it or suck it? I don't know. It was strange but kinda good!
In the town there's a restaurant called jackie o's. I'll state the obvious first, a woman called jackie owns it. Years ago she killed her husband in the bathtub...she shot him and used every bullet in the gun. That's not the crazy part, because it's such a small town the police let her off and just said the husband deserved it. So she got away with it and still works in this restaurant. Crazy right? I'd be quite scared to eat in there knowing that. Haha.
On the way for some food we drove passed all four beaches in York. The only problem was we could see nothing. Everywhere was surrounded by fog...so basically we were on a small tour looking at White, White and more White. Great views right?
We were still full...we are always full but we managed to scoff down some crab cakes and chicken strips at a small restaurant in Cape Neddick. My stomach was literally bursting when we were done.
Annes friends Joanne and Bruce came over to hear our stories and for a few drinks which was nice. We had some giggles reminiscing over some of our mischievous tales. We then continued our evening with more drinks at the local pub. A cute place but this evening had some pompous guys there trying to get our attention by making fun of the British accent. Like that was going to get us to talk to them. Idiots!
We got to have a lovely lie in the following morning. It felt good to just lay in bed for a while. Brenda had kindly lent her car to us for the day so we used it to visit the stores for a bit of Halloween shopping! We have a party lined up and we have decided on our costumes so all we had to do was find the bits and bobs for them. Liz will be attending Emilys party as red riding hood and I will be going as the black swan! Yay!! We drove passed a guy dressed as a lobster or some sort of stupid character waving a sign pointing to a halloween store. What a job aye? Lucky he was wearing a mask, I can imagine his face being pretty red behind it haha! We wandered around the store and found most bits all that was needed was some material for Lizs cape as we were going to hand make it. So to the material shop we went where we found the perfect red cloth, all we had to do was queue to get it cut. It's quite similar to Argos. You take your number and wait, wait and wait. A woman stood next to us with about 40 different materials...thank god she was after us. I have a feeling that would have taken hours. Phew!
Back at Annes we showed off our buys then made our way to Brenda and Richards for dinner. It's quite a trekk to their house plus a lot of driving through dark scary lanes. They live right in the middle of the woods. It was really creepy. We arrived safely, we hit no deer haha. We were hoping for a creamy mushroom pasta dish...and how lucky were we. It was that exact dish. It was beautiful! Plus it was followed by apple pie...the perfect meal. Plus it filled us up and made us sleepy so we headed home to bed for an early night.
I woke up early for some reason...I couldn't sleep. I think I'm getting too much sleep. It's a big change in my routine...my body doesn't understand how to NOT party. Well today was where the job search began. I had my cup of tea and a cookie and searched the web for some people to take lil ol me on as an employee again. I found a few jobs and applied, so fingers crossed.
A bit later we popped out for a bit to pick up a few things from walmart to make Anne a proper British breakfast in the morning as a thank you for having us. We picked up some White and milk chocolate cake mix as well to do some baking when we got back.
We got creative and made Liz's cape when we got home. Im so proud of us it looks awesome. It's way more fun making an outfit. Plus it always looks 10 times better. Anne was impressed...haha.
We were done and we'd worked up an appetite just in time for supper. Then we started on the baking! The oven was heated in went the White chocolate ones and then the milk. We had made about 80 cup cakes...enough to feed an army haha. We could have had a little bake sale and made some money on them because they were gooood! We are changed girls... in on a Saturday night baking. Who'd have thought aye? Let's not forget the vodka though haha. That also made an appearance!
We had a quick FaceTime session with the girls before they went out to see Alan Carr for goons birthday. Wish we were there with them. They were all ready go hit the town looking beautiful. We were jealous, so we took some cakes into the living room and watched enchanted to cheer us up. Plus it got us in the mood for New York. I'll be singing through Central park just like Giselle! Hopefully my prince will come and find me.
Morning came round quickly and we were up bright and early to begin making breakfast. A full fry up...yum yum! When we were done we cleaned up and went to pack, it was moving day for us. We did our packing and with all our winter clothes it was a squeeze but we managed it.
Another lovely Skype session with Dan and suz took place. Lots of gossip and maybe some exciting things happening over the next few months. Fingers crossed it all goes to plan girlies, I'm very excited!
Well it came time to say bye to Anne and Dolly we were on the move again now...a new location for us. We are heading to Jody's house for a few days. On the cards for tonight... a lovely meal and a night of dexter and chocolate...good times wouldn't you say?
The countdown to Halloween and New York is on...are you as excited as me? Haha.
Stay tuned until next time!
Muchos love
