Onwards we went to the small college town of Durham. UNH here we come! Go Wildcats!!!
It was our first day staying with Jody, Adam and Luke. We had a lovely home cooked dinner waiting for us. I am loving the cooked meals...feels just like home having mums dinners. Yum yum! We said goodbye to Anne...she had to go and prepare for her trip to Wales. She will be seeing my family before I do. Thats just weird. Haha. after our lily dinner we sat down to watch Burlesque...'show a little more, show a little less, add a little smoke...welcome to Burlesque!' great movie and great music. It was about time we got to watch it again for a good ol sing along session haha. All that singing tired us out so off to bed we went. It is the comfiest bed ever by the way! Very hard to get up in the morning.
We had a lie in before going downstairs to bagels and tea. Great stuff! After breakfast we hit the shops help Jody find her halloween costume. After some debating we went along with a good witch! She's too nice to be a bad witch haha. The capes were almost $30 to buy but as me and Liz have becoming cape making professionals we offered to make Jody's. So we bought some lovely green material and we were all set.
We headed back to the house and got creative. Out came the needle and thread and the cape making began. I'm telling you we will have a cape making business very soon. People will e queuing out the door for one of these bad boys! Haha. 45 minutes passed and we were done. Jodys outit was almost complete all she needed was a hat.
As a reward for our hard work we had a dominoes...a slice or five went down nicely. After stuffing our faces, Jody dropped us into Durham town so we could have a few drinks. We weren't there long, we had a few and a game of pool and left. The place was like a ghost town...well for a student village. Either the students are really good here and were in their rooms studying or there were lots of dorm parties somewhere which we didn't know about, because nobody was at the bars...we tried 3! Doesn't seem right does it?
Earlyish to bed...earlyish to rise. I woke up had my morning tea and watched a bit of tv. You know... The usual crime shows that America seems to love. When Liz woke we had a few skype sessions. One with the crazy lot from O2 queens...stanners, Todd and Harris! The other with mr Edwards, who is now pulling off the shaved head look.
The POA was to visit Portsmouth, New Hampshire to have a wander and pick up the last bits for Halloween. Including a moustache for Adam and a costume for Luke. The search was on. Portsmouth is such a cute town... Lots of little nick-nacks and a pretty cool joke shop. I had dejavu walking in there as I'd been in there with Lowri 6 years ago and everything was pretty much the same. We had no luck with Halloween stuff there though so we tried a different Halloween store back in Durham. I have to say it's the creepiest place ever...I would not like to be stuck in there at night. They had the scariest clown, zombie babies and that bloody girl from the exorcist creeping me out! We couldn't stay in there for long it was to freaky! We went and sat in the car and waited for Jody. She had found everything she needed so it was hometime.
With a bit of American X factor on tv we sat with a vodka and coke and ate our lovely chicken pasta. Homemade by Jody of course. After a few drinks we were in the mood to go out. As we weren't sure About how busy it was going to be we did some research. Involving google search, Facebook groups, and worst of all Facebook stalking people who go to UNH and emailing them asking! How embarrassing. In the end I rang the place(not sure why we didn't think of that sooner) and were told that Scorpions was going to be a good night!
We topped up our makeup and said bye to the boys before heading out. They are so cute...they're so shy. They came out of their shell slightly just as we were leaving. Bless them. We had some photos with them and then went to experience the UNH college night! As soon as we pulled up to the pub we knew it was going to be good. It was the complete opposite of the night before, it was busy! Woooo! What was even better...we got inside and ordered our usual vodka and coke...'that'll be $2 please!'. Amazing stuff! That's what we like haha!
So...1...2...4...5...8...9! Well I think that's how many. Haha. The place started to clear and me and Liz were dancing. Dancing in a bar where no one ever dances. What were we thinking? Embarrassing! I can safely say we made no friends. Jody picked us up and I have pretty much blacked out from then. Not good. I now think $2 drinks are a very bad idea.
Another new day and oh how hard it was to get through! We were sad to be leaving jodys, it's been fun... but the time had come to move on to the Hingham area to stay with Lee and family! We had a long car journey ahead so we packed up the car and made our way. Lee was meeting us half way at the Christmas tree shop.
We said our goodbyes and switched cars. I was struggling today. Like seriously struggling. The car journey seemed to last a lifetime but we got there in the end and went to chill in the theatre room...yes a movie theatre in their house haha. Loved it.
I'm sure it will become our little den for the next few days. Molly, Jack and Michael came home a few hours later and we all had a homecooked Turkey dinner before an early bed time for us. Me and liz were staying in separate rooms for the first time in 3 months...it was weird. I skyped Dave and Leah and had a little gossip before falling asleep.
After a well needed sleep i woke up early to begin the job hunting for Aus. Dolly was with us again... Yay! she was downstairs to greet me for breakfast haha. It was a horrible day outside so the plan was to job hunt most of the day and watch movies. A few hours passed and Liz woke from the dead. Shed had a good 14 hours haha. Sam came home to pick up some things for college so was cool to see him. He left a few hours later and we went downstairs to watch a movie. We watched something borrowed and what a brilliant movie. Kate Hudson is just awesome! We had some
Shrimp pasta for tea and before I knew it the day passed quite quickly, I caught up on gossip girl and then it was time for bed again!
We had another early night plus another early morning. It was a beautiful day for us to visit the city of Boston. We had our breakfast and went to catch the boat to into the city. Some random men were taking tickets and were trying to be sarcastic in saying there was no money on our tickets when we'd just paid for them. Leave the sarcasm to the welsh boys you are just not funny!
On the way over we got to see an amazing view of the skyline before docking. It might have been a beautiful day but it was bloody freezing. Lucky we had wrapped up warm. Well the warmest we could with the clothes we had. We stopped at a Starbucks or a hit chocolate to warm us up and searched for places to go. We walked to Quincy Market, the park (which was all closed off and full if crazy people. I'm surprised the street name wasn't Market street. We walked through it to get to the prudential centre for some shopping, where I found the cutest shorts for New York. As we were there we rode the lift to the 52nd floor for some lunch. There were gorgeous views of the city from way up high. Very expensive for food though! We decided to share an appetiser of crabcakes for $16. When it came I just looked at it. It was basically a blob on a plate, which me and Liz had to share. I couldn't believe it, I could barely see the portion so I'm not sure what we paid $16 for.
We began walking again after food. We needed to after the calories we just consumed... We were stuffed. Haha...sense the sarcasm? We walked down broadway and passed Chinatown before reaching a cool little Irish bar. We were gasping for a cocktail and some food that would actually fill us up. We looked at the menu and you could actually get a 3 course meal for $12 that's $4 cheaper than our blob on a plate.
We ordered our Halloween cocktails and a lobster roll to share. We had to get some lobster at least once in New England. Liz was getting a little tipsy if the first cocktail...so funny. We were happily sitting sipping our drinks an eating, when a guy sitting on the table behind calls over and asked me what I thought of his hat. It was a cookie monster hat and I thought it was pretty cool so I told him that. He asked Liz and she said 'i think its pretty lame' haha. It worked pretty well for me complimenting the hat, I got a free drink haha. Liz on the other hand didn't not that she needed it though she was pretty merry.
It was freezing out and we weren't really dressed for a night on the town so we made our way back to the boat. The same non sarcastic men were on duty, they didn't say anything this time though. Maybe they realised they just weren't funny.
It was the funniest journey... seriously! We were sat opposite a guy who was on the phone when we got on. I seriously thought he was on the phone to a girlfriend or something the way he was talking but we were wrong as when he hung up he said 'ok mommy, I love you!' he must have been almost forty haha. That was just the beginning, the whole journey back he was on his laptop smiling creepily at the screen. We were sure his mother was just sending him dirty images or something. His tongue came out a few times. It was gross but hilarious. There was an Elton John look-a-like sitting opposite to who was smirking to himself when looking at his iPad. Maybe that's who was sending the pictures to the dirty man opposite haha! I could not contain my laughter for the whole journey so I was just laughing out loud. It was seriously hysterical! I'm sure people thought we were crazy but we didn't care haha.
Lee was waiting at the dock for us and she took us back to the house. I looked for some board games to play but ended up getting seriously tired and went straight to bed. As I went to bed so early I woke up at 12.30am in need of a drink so I crept downstairs where I found a tub of nutella staring at me. So yes I started to eat it...don't judge me you would have done the same! It was back to bed for me then.
That time has come around again...we are moving on to the next family, Emily and Michaels house for a Halloween to remember! I was up early and watched a bit of pretty little liars before our pancake breakfast. I showered and packed and we were ready to hit the road again.
The countdown is on for Halloween and we are ready to get dressed up and scare! Yay! We have a busy day ahead and we are stoked.
It's going to be a thriller night...beware! I'll update you all in a few days...if I make it through the night alive!
