Day three of Bolivian Jeep tour:
We got up especially early to check out the sunrise over the largest and highest salt plains in the world. Because we were wearing hat and gloves and running around on white salt it looks like it is snow in the photos. Don't be fooled. It is actually salt, I should know I tasted it.
Because the completely white horizon distorts your perspectives, tourists like us are meant to create loads of wacky photos of standing on eggs and little hobbits and stuff. I don't think our photos really worked to be honest, they look a bit lame!
We also went to Fisherman's Island which looks pretty bizarre in the middle of the salt lake. It has loads of cactus all over it. We walked all the way to the top for the views but because of the lack of oxygen at altitude we had to stop of a breather every 10 metres.
When we got to Uyuni we booked seats on the night train to La Paz. We didn't really fancy going by bus.
Aidan.
