Well we stayed in Taupo for 2 nights. The hostel was nice and we had en suite!! Unfortunately it was freezing cold though, I had to sleep with most of my clothes on and a hat. We went to lake Taupo, the largest freshwater lake in NZ! On the 1st day we arrived and got the not so hot 'hotbus' to Craters of the Moon. It really does look like craters on the moon all steamy! Then we were abandoned by the hotbus for an hr and then went to the volcanic centre and experienced a 6 on the richter scale earthquake simulator. it was ok there but we knew most of it already!!
That night we saw a slanging match between a lorry driver and a motorist out our window. Exciting stuff!!! That evening we went swimming! I actually did some proper swimming it was all laned off for a good hr plus. Then were were going to recline in the hot pool bit for a while but no...some one had an 'accident' and it had to be closed down early. Typical! So we went down the slide instead. So cheap only 2GBP for all those pools!
The next day we went on an 8 hr trek (we don't like the hotbus) to the Huka Falls which are really good. Then we went to a village that is set up like an old Mauri village and had recreation of the pink and white terraces we saw in Rotorua before the eruption. Then we went to the Huka Prawn Farm where we failed to catch any prawns at all but I managed to get soaked on a guantlet thing much to brett's delight! I also got my rod stuck and had to get an extra one! We walked home just as it was getting dark knackered. The scenery was so nice along the way. Really liked Taupo and it actually had some clothes shops!!! I also picked up a bit of a tan or as me and louise call it a 'sun kissed' look!!! :-D
