Punta del Diablo is the first non-metropolis destination that we have visited and if Em and my reaction is any indication we needed it because Punta del Diablo, this little surfer village, has deliver far more gleeful tranquility than one would imagine its meager population could.
Punta, as I like to call it, is north of Montevideo on the coast. It is were rolling sand dunes meet a pristine coast line. The streets are red dirt, the ocean is a deep blue and exhiliratingly cool and in the low season (which we are currently in) there is only one hostel open in Punta del Diablo. The hostel, Diablo Tranquilo, is run by a 25 year old American, but the hostel isn't a small up start hobby, its a full business adventure and the guy, Brian, has been dedicated to the project since he was 20. They are still in their first year, but the hostel is great and has a terrific prospects one would reckon.
The real attraction in Punta del Diablo, isn't the nice hostel nor the lovely pair of travellers we have joined up with (Sophie from the UK and Marselle from the Netherlands), but the quietness and tranquility. Given that in the low season there is only about 700 residents and 25 or so travellers, is hard to find a spot that isn't soothing to the soul.
I just lost about 5 paragraphs of description to this stupid internet and unfortunately I have neither the time, patience nor drive to try and remember what lovely things I said about the unravelling beaches of Punta del Diablo, our dune trek and Cabo Polonia (the small isolated surfing village we visited today).
So instead I will wish you a frustrating farewell and try and write again later when I don't have a head full of red hot frustration.
