Another bizarre start to our day in Mucigliano! We had fog this morning. Ooh, big deal, right? Wrong! We are up on the hill, remember? Above us, totally blue skies; but we could not see a thing below! It was like waking up at the top of the beanstalk! It stayed like that until past 10:00 am, so Barry and Margaret decided to head into Asciano and update the blog.
When we returned, we decided to explore south, towards Civita di Bagnoregio, a place recommended by our buddy, Rick Steves. It is a hill town of 17 inhabitants that can get up to 3000 visitors per summer weekend day! Sharing the experience with all of those people was not in our plan, but seeing this place was.
It was awesome. It really was a hill town, accessible only by a narrow walking bridge. There are actually only 12 people who live there year-round, and everyone seems to have their own little venture going on, from restaurants to the Olive Mill Museum, to garden walks strongly encouraged by the old lady who owns the garden. After walking throughout the town (it only takes half an hour), we sat in the little piazza to have a glass of wine and some ice-cream. It was a lovely afternoon.
We got a little lost coming home but, in Tuscany, getting a little lost is always a nice surprise. The night ended with a game of cards and the promise of heat the next day.
