We checked out and spent our last day on Kangaroo Island making our way to the Ferry at Penneshaw. We drove into Kingscote for morning tea and did a touch of shopping with Dad & Eamon in a surf shop, and Mum & Renee in a souvenir shop. When we all met up again, Dad couldn't find the car keys!! So we spent the next 15 minutes backtracking desperately looking - finally dad found them hanging off a pair of boardshorts in the rack he'd been looking through -we were so relieved.
We went straight over to the ferry wharf and parked ready for our 4.30pm ferry. We had a couple of hours, so had a refreshing swim at the beach just beside the wharf - it was becoming a very warm day and we could see the plume of smoke from the Adelaide Hills where there were terrible bushfires. The ferry arrived a little early, and we had a smooth ride across sitting on the bow. We saw a dolphin in the distance but they didn't come near us unfortunately. The breeze was nice and cool until about halfway across the Backstairs Passage when the northerly hot wind became apparent.
We arrived back at Goolwa Caravan Park around 6.30 and our friends (the Prelc's) arrived about 7.30. The adults enjoyed a chat while cooking dinner in the camp kitchen with all its xmas fairy lights aglow, and the kids played on the jumping pillow - a great catchup!
