Unable to find out any information on when the border to Thailand opened we woke up at 5am to make the border at 6am....the border didn't open till 8am. Fortunately when the border control guys turned up for work they let us through at 7.30am. A very simple crossing. Nick and Erica met us at the border so we could share a tuk tuk to Chiang Klong where we could get our bus to Chiang Mai. Nick and Erica got off in Chiang Rai but we are hoping to meet up with them again soon.
After a 6 hour journey, we arrived in Chiang Mai. On a quest to find a guesthouse we had heard about, we set off walking fully laden. Char isn't great with the concept of how far places are but Matt is normally pretty good. 500m was our task, but after walking for a long time, even Char knew we had gone way past this. Eventually, walking back to nearly where we started we found it.
On first impressions, we love Chiang Mai. We ate at the vegetarian festival and found our way to the jazz club. This time we weren't the only ones in the audience, the place was buzzing. With it being jam night, Matt was quick to get his name down so that he could exercise his chops. The house band were good but were full of 'typical' jazzers, knowing their stuff but not how to please the crowd. Knowing what people would want to hear, Matt stepped it up and threw out some BB's Box, kept it simple and commercial. The crowd went wild!
