I had little sleep before I had to get up to get to the airport for my flight to Melbourne. By the time I arrived in Australia (before 8am local time) I was exhausted. We had a slight delay getting of the plane, due to a gentleman being taken ill during the flight. The paramedics were ready and waiting when we arrived, luckily it was nothing serious.
I took the shuttle from the airport into central Melbourne, finding my hostel by 10am I was annoyed to find I couldn't check in until 1pm :-( All I wanted was a quick nap! Instead I went into a booking agents and planned my whole trip through Australia, day trips and accommodation all sorted! I cannot wait! After checking in I took a walk around the centre of Melbourne and got my bearings.
Day 2 in Melbourne; I decided to go on a city tour and had been told by one of the girls in my room that there were free tours going on. I made my way to Federation Square for 10:30am and was taken on a tour, by foot, through central Melbourne. It was pretty good, our guide told us about the history of Melbourne, including people and buildings. I thoroughly enjoyed taking it all in although 3hours constantly walking in flip flops was probably not a great idea....
Some of the girls on the tour with me invited me to go to lunch and St Kilda with them afterwards. We had lunch by the river, which was lovely and headed back to the hostel (all staying in the same one funnily enough) for warmer clothes, planning to be there in the evening. By the time we for back to the tram line I decided I'd go to St Kilda another day and enjoy it for more than a few hours. I wasn't bothered about missing he Penguins at sunset as I was due to do this at Philip Island the next day anyway.
