Aboard my new bus, I headed to Taupo. A last minute decision the night before, meant I was going to do a skydive! I'd taken a risk paying out $160 for it prior to getting there to save money (so I was screwed if the weather wasn't good enough). I was somewhat worried as the journey from Rotorua consisted of clouds and rain. However, as we arrived there were blue skies over Lake Taupo (a lake big enough to fit the whole of Singapore in, with space left over). I arrived at the hostel, checked in and was immediately on my way to the airport and getting ready to jump.
I am so glad I did it. Having continually said it was something I'd never do it was one of the best things I did; a 15,000ft jump with phenomenal views as I fell. The 60 second free fall was brilliant and once the parachute was open I got to steer, with views for miles over Lake Taupo. Number one thing I've done in New Zealand.
In the evening it was off to hot water pools for some drinking games and then back to the drivers house to finish our drinks. To top the day off, in the bar in the evening I played bingo and won a free upgrade to a private room for the next evening.
The rest of my time in Taupo was pretty relaxed and I bumped into people from my old bus, which was even better.
