The morning in Kaiteriteri consisted of fun on the beach after a nicely cooked breakfast of baked beans and scrambled egg (yes Heidi and Tracie "I don't like egg" [except scrambled now] lol). Luckily we had a nice morning in the sun, as we boarded the bus the heavens opened and we were on our way to Westport. Leaving Ali, Danny, Bennett and Walter behind, they said goodbye by mooning us out of the car park.
Arriving at Bazil's hostel, a little random "surfers" hostel, but our 10 person dorm was equipped with its own tv, sofas and kitchen. We met a guy called Pete, who was relatively normal, but we soon found out he didn't like paying for food so ate ours instead.
We left Westport in the morning (there seemed little to do other than surf and the weather was pretty pants). Instead, we took a long walk along the coast (Cape Foulwind and Tauranga Bay) overlooking a fur seal colony. Then another walk at lunchtime at Punakaiki to see the Pancake Rocks (a term I would use loosely as they looked nothing like pancakes to me, but get their name due to the stratified limestone stacks apparently now, following erosion, look like giant stacks of pancakes).
A stop in Greymouth next to get out fancy dress outfits of the night at the Poo Pub at Lake Mahinapua. With no direct theme I went for a nice cheap option and spent no more than $1.50 on newspaper for my hobo outfit.
We all arrived at Lake Mahinapua Hotel mid afternoon (again, hotel is a word used very loosely it was more like shacks with bunk beds). Took a walk to the lake and then had a BBQ dinner cooked by the 86 year old owner, Les. Then it was time to make our outfits and dress up. It was a great night with limbo games and dancing.
