Hey guys well im in melaka now after spending a few days in georgetown, penang island.
Georgetown was prety good but not too much to do there really. spend one day just walking aroung the city checking out a few museums like the penang state museum, there was also an old fort called fort cornwallis there that the british used back in the days when they ruled there. the culture there was just as varied as in kuala lumpur, chinatowns, india towns and the malay neighbourhoods were everywhere. Big breakthrough though im actually starting to like spicy food! well if you call chicken tandoori spicy anyway! there werent much else good to eat there so i was just eating indian food every day and got a bit of a taste for it now.
Also checked out the national park in penang with an english guy called joel who was staying at the same hostel as me. there was a canopy walk through the rainforest which was prety dodgy as the thing just swung back n for as you tried to cross it. did some trekking through the jungle then until we reached a beach and took a swim there...wasnt the best sea iv ever seen, saw a few dead fish floating about there plus some other random stuff. We had reached the park by renting out mopeds from georgetown, was the first time any rental place has actually wanted to see my driving license in asia! When we left the park it was raining hard so took a boat back to where the bikes were parked...i'd completely forgoten id left my helmet on top of the bike so when i got there my helmet was half full of water from the rain!
Anyway i met a girl from england called candy in the love lane inn hostel and we decided to bus it down to melaka the next day with an english couple called jamie and ayla.
First off when the bus dropped us off in melaka we thought it werent that far from the hostel we were gonna stay at...wrong! The map the owners of the love lane inn had given us to show where the hostal was was well prety s*** to be honest. It took us about 2 hours of walking at half 6 in the morning to find the Discovery cafe hostel!
Well after that we just chilled out for a bit then walked around melaka and then we went to jongers street which is filled with stalls every weekend selling the same stuff really as any other market. But we were lucky there was a show on by a guy called Master Ho who is this sort of malaysian doctor ninja guy! He has a world record for smashing his index finger through coconuts. well when he was starting off the show he took me out of the crowd and said i was basically gona be his sidekick for the show! This involved things like picking coconuts for him to smash with his finger (you should have seen the state on his finger after, it was really bent and swollen) he even made me try to do it and i did and it hurt like hell which the crowd found prety funny! but hes also some sort of doctor so for being his sidekick he gave me a bottle of this 'medicine', which hed been selling to the crowd earlier, for free and this stuff supposedly stops any pain anywhere in your body.
Next day i went around melaka checking out the usual museums and malls and stuff like that, same as anywhere else really but they have got some cool places here like dutch squar and the portugese settlement because of all the countries who once ruled here there are still some remains of what they left behind. theres a prety cool tower like thing cant really describe it...theres a big pole about 100 metres high and this observation deck goes up and down on it revolving around so tourists can see the city...bloody expensive though so didnt bother with that. In the night met this scottish guy called del who works on the barges off shore near melaka, had a good laugh watching the footy on tv and drinking loads of something called Hennessey, tasted like whisky really.
We were supposed to leave today but got up too late and missed the bus cos i was so hungover...so we are gona leave tomorrow for a place called cherating on the east coast, the weathers actually supposed to be good over there and some nice beaches...we'l see. Off bowling tonight for a change do something a bit westerny like and then get an early night so we dont miss the bus again tomorrow!
