Hey everybody been a while since i updated my blog so lots of stuff to ramble on about!
Arrived in cambodia about 5 days ago after going sailing up the mekong river from can tho to phnom penh which took about 8 hours with just wooden benches to sit on, was prety good fun tho.
Arrived in phnom penh and spent 3 days there, first day really didnt do too much apart from going out to a club there called heart of darkness which was awesome and got way too drunk! somehow ended up in my bed at 5am in the morning and i have no idea how i got there lol. On the second day we slept in til about 2pm with really bad hangovers then decided to go to S21 which is a museum now but used to be a prison back during the war. A lot of horrific things went on there and at one stage they were killing 100 prisoners a day and using some prety nasty torture techniques on them. After that we wernt to watch some cambodian kickboxing in some stadium, but the most entertaining thing there was the street kids...the poverty here in cambodia is prety bad and there are a lot of homeless kids going around begging in the streets and kickboxing stadiums...a few of them even got into a fight over who would get our empty beer cans!
On our last day in phnom penh me and dan visited the killing fields where about 20,000 people were buried in mass graves, this included women and children. the worst part was when they showed us this big tree which they used to use to kill babies by swinging them by the legs and hitting their heads against the tree. there is a good mounment there though for the victims, a stupa 17 storeys high contains all the bones and clothes of the people who were killed there as a lasting memory about what happened there. After the killing fields we went to the shooting range!!! we picked the biggest machine we could see which was a k-57 russian machine gun, paid $40 each for 50 bullets, only lasted a few minutes but was so worth it...was going to try the grenade launcher but that was $350!! so decided to skip that.
Anyway we left phnom penh the same day and came to a small town called kampot in south cambodia. not too much to do here but today we rented some bikes and went looking for a waterfall and lagoon nearby...didnt find it but we found this river where all the locals swim so jumped in with them for a swim for a while then headed home. Might be going to a national park near here tomorrow where you can see tigers and elephants but will have to wait see how much it all costs.
