I woke Graham early as the sun was shining , we had to make the most of the chance to run around the lagoon. It was a lovely spot and if I had been a bird watcher would have been very excited by the bird life. We returned for breakfast, pack up and depart for the next destination.
All seemed well but after an hour our driver pulled into a garage, apparently a warning light was showing, a fault seemed to be with power steering. This was our second bus of the trip as the first one had played up on the way to Stellenbosch. The group set off to a large store with a coffee shop thinking we were going to be there some time . However we were soon dumped at a large shopping mall to spend a few hours amusing ourselves, a group of cyclists idea of hell, but it did have a very good selection of outdoor and sports shops. A few hours later we were transferred to a different bus with Daniel the driver, and continued somewhat later than planned to our cycling destination.
The scenery had changed dramatically to rolling hills of rural farmland. Our cycle ride was through this undulating scenery on a very bumpy gravel road for 30 km down to a river. Unfortunately a few of us turned off the road too soon and when we realised no one was following us, had to turn around and to cycle like mad to try and catch up which we never did. The whole area was so deserted it was a bit worrying when we thought we were completely lost.
When we eventually got to the river it was beginning to get dark and the stunning sunset was enjoyed on our long drive back to our guest house at Swellendam a nice town close to the Langeberg Mountains. The scenery we would not be appreciating until the next day. A lovely Barbeque was prepared by our hosts and a long day finished successfully.
