The morning started with a run, the first of the holiday, only because breakfast was late today. We didn't go far only down the road where we saw the children on the way to school at 7.30 am.
We departed from this lovely lodge soon after 9 and had to stop in the town to pick up the 2 broken bikes which the "wally" had broken. A drive through the mountains took us down to the coast. Unfortunately the weather had changed and it was now cloudy and drizzly. We stopped about 6 miles from the coast to get on our bikes and cycle to Buffalo Beach. As it was a bit wet most of the group put on a lightweight bicycling jacket, except for the wally who wore a camouflage jacket. ( very appropriate! ). Arriving at the beach, the waves were quite spectacular and as we had some time to spend here, some of us went for a swim despite slightly being put off by the shark attack kit on the beach. It was too rough for much swimming but it might be the only chance to swim in the sea, so it had to be done.
After lunch at the beach cafe we made our way to Knysa to our accommodation another lovely lodge residence with views over the estuary. We hope the weather improves so we can see the views. However the security in this area was a bit scary, every house had spiked railings as fencing, we had to lock shutters across our balcony and get through a security gate to the complex.
This afternoon's cycle was mountain biking through the Harkerville National Forest. I hadn't appreciated how much mountain biking we would be doing, but the "wally" was in his element in his baggy gear and camouflage jacket. We all enjoyed the trail through the forest and emerged
unscathed but very muddy.
Dinner was on site which was a bit like school dinners - adequate, but we returned to the lounge in our lodge for some wine with our colleagues before bed.
