Today we took an early bus trip with our local guide (Ken) who is the gayest and funniest Asian I have ever met ( his tattoo says "it is better to give than to recieve....except in bed" HA!) he's a little bit hard to understand but he's constantly throwing jokes into his commentary which keeps the educational stuff a bit more entertaining.
On the way to the boat we stopped at a road house for some fish ice cream, yes it's ice cream made from fish fat which sounds gross but tastes amazing! And when you think about it no more gross than the pig fat that mcdonalds makes their soft serve from...
We jumped on a wooden ferry type boat and toured along the river through the floating markets, each boat had some kind of fruit or vegetabe or seafood on it and apparently the land markets are not allowed to sell seafood because it risks ruining the floating market industry.
We stopped at a confectionary factory and saw how LOLLIES are made...and yes we got to try them, D-lish! They also made rice bubbles, peanut brittle and coconut toffee, all hand made and no machines, takes all day! I think I prefer dropping into woolies when I need a sugar fix!
Afterwards it was pouring with rain so we all got poncho's, canoes, traditional hats and a coconut beverage and made our way to lunch which was a traditional 5 course meal of mostly veg, spring rolls, seafood and fruit, again D-lish!
We then walked to guest house we are staying at where we got the chance to hold their pet cuddles who is the fattest snake I've seen in my life, I did it cause I said I'd try everything but I did not like it and I cried like a baby afterwards...it's ticked off the list now and won't be happening again, next time I'll reach for the shovel!
On a lighter note, our guest house is gorgeous!! Its pretty isolated and there wasn't alot to do so during the evening we chilled out in hammocks, got to know each other over some vodka red bull and a local band came to sing (or wail) for us while we had dinner which was a choice of rat or snake...I tried both but rat was definitely my favorite so I'll be setting the traps when I get home!!
Ken had told us to prepare a talent act for a show after dinner and we were all freaking out cause we had nothing but luckily it turns out he was joking, good thing cause the most I could come up with was my ability to sing the alphabet in phonics !
