Our flight this morning was due to leave at 7:40am. It was 6:50ish after a 25 minute bus ride when we realized my bag along with another girl (kim)'s bag had been left in the lobby at the motel...
It took ages to call the motel and get them to understand that we needed a taxi to bring the bags to us before our flight (luckily I knew my bag was only 7kg so I could check in early and take it as carry on IF it made it on time)
I wasn't overly stressed cause my satchel had my passport, money, camera, phone and all the other important stuff in it, so if I HAD to leave it behind I'd only be losing clothes..
The call to board the flight went off and our bags still weren't there, i bit the bullet and made my way to the plane. Just as I was boarding the plane, the airport staff came running out with my bag, it was such a relief, Kim had a bit of trouble checking in but still made it on the flight.
So after a stressful morning (but less boring airport wait) we flew to DaNang and took a bus ride to Hoi Ann. This place is one of the only cities that hadn't been bombed during the war -every other town has only been developing for the last 30 years or so.
The Old Quarter is an untouched town and everything is as it was in the 1960's and before that, all the buildings were beautiful and we learnt some of the history of a traditional 7 generation homestead.
We also learnt about our year of birth and it's meaning - 1990 is the year of the horse and it means prosperity.
We checked into our motel and had some free time to go and get clothes made YESSS!! I had so much trouble finding an ATM and it was the hottest day we've experienced but that did not stop me, the streets are lined with hundreds of tailor shops and amazing dresses, it's so hard to chose which to go into but I found my dress for the North Ball and fell in love with it! Did not pay more than $35 for anything! And we get more free time tomorrow afternoon (score)
After a quick dip in the motel pool to cool off we took a pushbike tour around the city- BEA-utiful!! It was very hot but again I appreciated the exercise! The scenery was incredible, lush green fields, street markets, stone buildings- incredible!
We had another swim before a night stroll over the bridge surrounded by colorful sculptures and lights to our cooking class.
We made veggie rolls, mango salad and spicy chicken skewers, I concluded i was quite the Vietnamese masterchef after I got to eat my creations!
Totally exhausted from the early morning and the masses of walking in the hot sun I went straight home to bed afterwards...awesome day!....apart from the bag drama lol.
