Didn't wake up until 10.30am this morning! First time we've had a lie in for a while though. And all we could hear outside was rain so we couldn't be bothered getting out of bed! We just sat and watched a bit of a couple of films.
We finally got ourselves up and ready to go for a walk into town, at about 1.30pm to get some late lunch. Went to a place called Cargo Club. Food was lovely - had a good choice on the menu with Western as well as Vietnamese food. I had a Bacon Cheeseburger and Therese had a Chicken Burger - not very Vietnamese, but just what we wanted after a night out!
Then we had a desert. They had so many different cakes in the cabinet and it's all fresh from their own bakery. We had chocolate cheesecake and strawberry tart, and had a coffee. It was SO nice!! All of it only came to about 300,000 Dong (£10).
It was still raining so we didn't really want to be looking around shops getting even wetter. Instead, we decided to go find a Spa that we'd read about on Tripadvisor that's got really good reviews. We found it and it's quite close to our hotel. Only a small place. We had a look at the prices and this little old guy came over telling us everything...actually, I've no idea what he was on about, couldn't understand a word he was saying. I'm not really into these massages and that - too much pain. But thought it would be good to sooth some aching muscles plus it was raining so something to do.
We went for the 60 minute body scrub and massage, and 60 minute facial for 580 Dong (£19) each, which Therese tells me is very cheap. First off, they sat us down and cleaned our feet in a pan of water with flower leaves in - very nice - and given some flip flops. Then we were led up to a tranquil little darkened room. We were given towels, two small packets and asked to go remove all clothes...we went off to get changed. The little packets contained paper panties! I had to wear a little pair of polka-dot, see-through, paper panties that said XL on the tag. Nowhere near fit me, obviously XL for a woman. I couldn't even look at myself in the mirror. Bad enough with Therese keeling over and wetting herself at the sight of me. Stuck the towel around me anyway and went back to the room for the next surprise...
Why do I get the fella massaging me? What's that all about? Fortunately he didn't appear gay, not at all like the guy who did my foot massage in Bangkok - the one who had a twinkle in his eye everytime he looked at me. He pulled my paper underwear half way down my back side though - made me uncomfortable. Couldn't relax too much either because everytime I closed my eyes I had a nightmare moment and I'd imagine it was that really poncey foot massage guy from Bangkok!
Anyway, the massage. What are these massages all about? Thought it was supposed to be relaxing. It's 90% pain. Started with the body scrub which was kind of nice, but you know when you get sand on you and you rub your skin a few times and it burns? Well I had that all over my body. Definitely lost a few layers of skin - felt like my nipple had been grated off too. Occasionally (10% of the time) it felt good.
We then had to get showered and then go back for the body massage. Thought he was going to break my back at one point. I had to tell him to go a bit easy. Sometimes it actually really tickles too - I couldn't stop chuckling at one point...the guy asked me if I was ok, think he thought I was in pain.
Therese thought it was all great and said she won't take me to one of these places again because all I do is moan.
I don't know whether it was good or not to be honest. The more pain, the better the job?
Next up was the facial - it's not just for girls this stuff... There was a change of therapist and this time I had a woman. The facial was nice and relaxing apart from when she was trying to crush my skull and make my temples meet in the middle. I like head massages. They always give me them at the hairdressers I go to back home, very relaxing...usually.
She put this stuff on my face that smelt like peanut butter - was going to pop my tongue out for a taste.
Finally finished and I couldn't believe 2 hours had passed - must have been relaxing.
It was after 7pm so we quickly got back to the hotel to meet the others to go for tea. We were still soaked, especially our feet, but it was still throwing it down so didn't see the point in getting changed.
We went to a place called Green Chilli. Loads of things on the menu and was mainly western food - Italian, mexican, some Vietnamese. The waiter was really plugging the charcoal grilled rib-eye steak and it looked really good and was massive. I wasn't that hungry though as we ate at 3pm...smelt so good though so I went for it. It was absolutely lovely and it came with a bit of veg and baked potato. Therese had a curried type sea-bass with veg which was really nice too. Probably one of the most expensive meals we've had, but still only cost 560,000 Dong (£19)! Would cost that just for one of steak or sea bass back home!
Nobody was that keen on a beer and as soon as me and Therese said we might go for a coffee, everybody said yes! Think everybody was thinking the same thing but nobody wanted to admit they wanted coffee rather than going for beers.
It was still raining and we were still soaked wet through as well, so was good to have a nice warm coffee - couldn't have drunk beer!
No bonfire night for us!
Early night tonight. Hopefully it stops raining tomorrow...
