We were going to go on a boat trip today, to do some snorkeling and go to a nearby island for BBQ lunch, but Therese has had a few stomach problems the past day or two so we decided to give it a miss. It wasn't sunny anyway so didn't feel like we'd miss out on much. Plus we'll be going to a load of islands and doing snorkelling on our travels anyhow.
We'd got up early to meet our group anyway so had breakfast with them, then went back to our bungalow to relax a bit which was a nice change.
I'd read about a beach on Tripadvisor called Otres Beach, so we got a tuk-tuk to take us there. Took the shorter and cheaper route to the beach, which just meant a short walk to the beach after he dropped us. He didn't take us as far as he was going to, because we got to this bridge that was no longer safe...so we had to walk across! Was a right old rusty thing - thought we were going to fall through!
We got over the brow of this little hill and could see the beach! Nice and quiet, no building work and a lot less people trying to sell stuff. Lots of bar/restaurant places as well. The sea was really calm and the view was nice with a few little islands dotted around. It wasn't sunny though, we didn't see the best of the beach. It was nice sand, but quite a narrow beach.
We lazed about a bit and had some food, then got the tuk-tuk back the long way. Well, I'd heard that the long way had a bumpy road too, but that was not the right word, it was ridiculous. We'd only just eaten and were being flung up and down in the air. It was like being on an old fairground ride like mouse trap in Blackpool - sure I've got whiplash.
We wanted to go to the local market to find some clothes...for Halloween! Yeah, Halloween is being celebrated right here, in Cambodia! Well, it's just in the bars where all the westerners go. We'd seen fliers about the parties last night, so all said we'd get dressed up. Me and Therese decided to go as zombies. We stumbled across this little shop that had a load of second hand stuff - probably donated stuff. I got a pair of jean shorts and a t-shirt for $2 (£1.35) and Therese got a t-shirt for $1 (60p). We then got some talcum powder, black eyeliner, red lip liner and some bandage. We couldn't wait to get home and start!
We got a tuk-tuk back to the main road we were at just to see where we could eat tonight. There's a place called Mick & Craig's which does.....Sunday Roast!! And it's recommended by the New York Times. Lots of other nice food too. It was on the shortlist for tonight.
On our walk back to our bungalow, there were a few people dressed in Halloween gear and some people advertising parties tonight in the bars.
We were back in our bungalow and got to work. Cutting up the t-shirts and jeans, adding tea stains and red lip liner "blood". Then we added bandages to ourselves with blood and dirt. And then Therese did the makeup for our faces....haha, we thought we did a pretty good job!! We spent about 2 and a half hours on our masterpieces! We'll try get pictures up as soon as we can.
Unfortunately, we were the only people in our group that got dressed up...! To be fair, they didn't really have as much time as we did as they'd been on the boat trip.
We set off up to the bar/restaurant area for some tea. Got a few dodgy looks as we walked into the restaurant, Mick & Craig's....yes, we had Sunday Roast! And it was really really good! $5 each and better than most of the ones we get in some of the places at home!
So, we came all the way to Cambodia and had a Roast Dinner and got dressed up for Halloween!
After that we went to Monkey Republic again. Loads of people were dressed up and really made an effort. One girl was dressed up as one of those blue things from Avatar - very good costume! Really busy out as well.
Had a drink in there but unfortunately Therese wasn't feeling good so we went back. It's a good job, because I would have probably got drunk and don't fancy having a hangover tomorrow - another 4-5 hour bus to our next stop...Vietnam!!
