So this should be a winner. I'm doing a Thai Cooking Course for the next couple of days!
It's run by the "original and best" cooking school in Chiang Mai, the head chef is on TV in the UK! The first day was today, and it was fantastic!
We were bussed out of town to a big house with lots of outdoor cooking stations, and made 6 dishes in total. Each time, we would watch Soppong do it and then do it ourselves. It was actually really easy and straightforward, despite the spitting wok and occasional arm burns.. And the best part was.... We got to eat everything we made! So I have had lunch about 4 times today. Not complaining.
Stuff I now know how to make:
- Chicken in coconut milk soup
- Fish with red curry
- Stir fried mushrooms and veg with an amazing sauce
- Pad thai
- Green papaya salad
- Banana mushy cake stuff
Impressed? Wait until day 2!
DAY 2
I am so full of food right now it is hard to think. I'm not exaggerating, every movement requires serious mental effort. I won't eat again for months. Today we cooked:
- Thai noodles with egg and veg
- Yellow curry with chicken
- Steamed fish in banana leaves
- Chicken with cashew nuts (this was my favourite)
- Spicy shrimp salad
- Bananas in coconut milk
Typing out that list has made me feel sick. Not that I'm a bad cook (au contraire if I do say so myself) but we ate soooo much today, and I was still pretty full from yesterday. Gonna need to hike all over these mountains for the next couple of days.
Can't wait to cook thai at home! :D
