Wow our first blog...finally!!! Where do we start....................
Well we made it to Bangkok Thursday evening which was an achievement in itself. Others wern't quite so lucky, we saw one girl throw herself out of a taxi in to the middle of Thai's equivalent of the M25 (Clu that wasn't you was it?!!).
We checked into our hotel which was only one street behind the Kho San Road and decided to have a look around. First stop was the roof pool, which quite frankly stunk of eggs and burnt hair... delightful. Unfortunately the door had locked behind us and our only escape seemed to be a large hole, and a drop of 3 floors.. decided against it.. we didnt have the appropriate footwear on ha. just as we were starting to panic, a phone on the wall began to ring. It was security, they had clearly had a good laugh but would now come and help us down.
Kho San is crazy... just like it is portrayed in "The Beach", crammed with people and 100's of stalls.
We had a few issues adjusting to the time difference resulting in us getting up at 4am to go and see the Golden Buddha, thinking it was 8am. Taras classic quote" these curtains must be really good, because it still is so dark!!"
After a day of exploring we decided to go to a Thailand Culture show and shortly realised, after a pingpong ball fired from a Thai ladies V#$#&^% narrowly missed Tara's head, that this was not our cup of tea. Enough said but amazing pelvic muscles.
We spent the following day sight seeing and visited the Tiger Temple, the River Kwai and the Death Railway. We were in little sun dresses as we had not been informed that for the temple you have to be fully covered up. We had to pull out some clothes at the top of our rucksack and looked like absolute plonkers (see pics).
That night we set off on the 17 hour bus ride (we were only told 8) to Phuket. The bus was soooo cold but Laura got warm by managing to lock herself somehow in to the extremely hot toilet and had to be rescued by a bemused Thai man.
So.. we arrive in Phuket... Finally. Our hotel is right on Patong Beach, it is absolutely stunning. The night life again is particularly seedy, with Young Thai girls preying on fat, bald (no offense Dad), and very sweaty middle-aged, European men.. or is it the other way round!! We met some fellow travellers and went to a couple of bars before returning back to the hotel somewhat worse for wear.- having drunk several shots that resembled the taste of mouthwash and pure gasoline.
Next day we went on a boat trip to Phi Phi. Again stunning views and crystal clear waters. We Snorkelled in the bay where they filmed "The Beach". Tara unfortunately did not bond with the local sealife and got stung by a jellyfish. Sadly, Laura got stage fright and couldn't pee on her to relieve the stinging... probably for the best. We met another traveller, who named himself Dangerous Brian. He was quite frankly very strange and claimed he had been stung three times, bitten by a shark and restled with an crocodile. He was really well travelled however and gave us some useful tips.
That evening we were meant to be going to Clublime with the guys that we had met the previous night. We settled down for a 40 minute nap prior to our night out, which unfortunately turned into a 14 hour sleep, and we woke up the following morning somewhat confused.
Today we are hitting the beach.. Hope everyone at home is safe and well. Next blog will be coming soon.. Peace out!!
