I am currently on a road trip, I met some German boys, in Melbourne and we decided to rent a camper and drive for 5 days down the great ocean road and end in Phillip island to see the penguins on the beach! Once we picked up the camper the excitement begin, although it was a small van we couldn't wait to drive and see all the sights along the way. Although driving an automatic and a van did scare me a little.
The first night was eventful as we found a free campsite that had no showers, no toilette and worse still no electric which meant my hair could not be straighteners ahhhhh! Although It was basic it was spectacularly beautiful and made it worth it! We even saw koala bears in the tree, they would make such loud noise, sounding a little bit like a broken lawn mower. The next day we set off down the great ocean road to see the 12 apposials .... Wow they were breathtaking, it was so incredible to sit on the beach and be surrounded by huge cliffs and amazing views. The weather was getting hotter and hotter which made going for a swim even more inviting.
On the 3rd day we made our way to the end of the ocean road and headed for the Grampians national park which is more inland between Melbourne and Adelaide. The Grampian were also beautiful and we managed to see waterfall and a small mountain range which overlooked the outback for miles or.....kilometre as the Aussies would say. The pictures are awesome and I will try and attach some for you to see.
After a change of plan we decided not to go to Adelaide but to head back toward Melbourne and visit Phillip island. This was defiantly a good idea because on Phillip island we saw lots of kangaroo and the penguins nesting on the beach. At around 8pm Australian time the penguins come in from the sea and onto the main land to feed their family's, this was spectacular to watch, there must have been hundreds! 3H know penguins are my favourite animal, and thank you Hugh for the idea! The next day we returned to Melbourne and gave back the now...somewhat smelly and dusty camper van.
I am now back in Melbourne and have just booked my flight to Sydney on 22nd of January. Today I am going to the Melbourne tennis open to watch, and take in the atmosphere. I hope all is well with everybody and I will keep you updated with my next diary entry! Also add comments as I like to hear from you all!!!
