After Brisbane and the comfort of a real bed and proper dinners, we headed to Noosa for our crab race prize.
Not actually through the everglades we later learnt but pretty much unguided canoeing through the rivers was our entertainment for the next 3 days. It was very basic, real bush camping you could say. Though entertainment it certainly was as the bush camp workers pretty much left us to it after the first morning. We canoed 5 k up river, stopping at a little beach to soak up some rays, then a stroll to a pub and then 5 k's back. The weather was gorgeous and apparently in high tide sharks get pushed up the river and then make their way back. This pleased Laura as she loves paddling along in shark infested water :-). Aside from the canoeing the real entertainment was the bush camp fire in the evening. Everyone sat around, drinking Goon, as of course is customary! We played games met some Hardcore Irish and generally chatted and laughed with people from all over the world.
On one of the Bush walks for fire wood we saw a frog with red spots on its back. Apparently they are the ones that can be licked and hallucinations and trippy times are in store for the licker!! No before you ask, I didn't do it....
The first night was spent sleeping in bunk bed type dorms which were freezing cold but we had our goon coats on and survived. The next 2 nights were spent in a tent so a bit warmer though uncomfortable. After 2 nights of drunkeness were we a little late getting out the next day and didn't start our paddling till about midday! Some guys were really getting in the whole Bear Grylls thing and made fishing lines out of twigs etc. Some were succesful and a goodly sum of fish were caught and cooked that evening. Not that we are into fish but I had totry some as thats a fresh dinner! I quite enjoyed it, think it was called a Brim, similar to a Bream apparently. There were also fire attempts with a magnifying glass which almost worked!
We toasted marshmallows on the fire and on our last night after being handed a guitar I decided that we had to write a song about the camp..... The lyrics started with somethng like this
We were gooned, by the fire.....
At gagaju bush camp......
Eating fruitcake,
That looks like stuffing....
Although we'd rather,
Have a muffin....
Chorus
We love Gagaju, We love Gagaju (Repeat)
We saw Tinkerbell, in the fire
She puts herself out for hire....
That was as far as we got, and you can obviously tell the campers, especially ourselves may have had a few...... The reference to Tinkerbell was a game where you took a photograph of the fire and then had to find something in there. As well as dogs, faces and a baby, the best fire sighting was of tinkerbell!
We had a fantastic time here though after 3 nights it was enough! Real good times were had and we looked forward to the next ones.....
