We set off from Abel Tasmin for a 4hour drive to Greymouth on the West Coast, the views where just gorgeous though! Rolling mountains, beautiful Lakes and all the greenery and the Autumn colours (oh....we are so poetic).
'Dave' finally made it to Greymouth, not much there but we did stay in the most amazing hostel ever!!! That evening we made dad a feast followed by wine, beer and a few games of s***head!!
The next morning we watched finding Nemo whilst dad went looking for some gold in the Shanty museum/mine. From here we set off to Franz Josef glacier. Once again the drive was incredible, especially as we approached the town, with the snowy mountains in the distance. The town were the glacier is is very much like a little Alpine ski resort, we had an early night to prepare us for the trek the following day!!!
So after getting all kitted up in our hats, gloves, jackets, boots etc etc.... we headed for the glacier in a group of about 25. After 45mins of just walking to the start we began our hike!!!! We walked up, over and around the glacier for just over 3hours which was absolutley amazing, the views were just incredible and the colours of the ice, such an experience! Bloody hard work though, especially when our feet weighed a few stone with our hiking boots and ice spikes on!!!
That night we had a nice hot shower and got dolled up and went for an Indian - very well deserved!!!
Wednesday we were up and off once again, this time heading for Wanaka.
