So we arrived to Nadi airport with a reception Bula dance to be taken to our hotel.
Here we spent a few days chilling by the pool, getting climatised to the sunshine again and sorting our 2week Fiji trip out.
Fiji is made up of 350ish island dotted around the mainland. With a small backpack we began our trip of the islands on Wednesday 20th June.
The idea is that you get transported from island to island by a boat in the middle of the ocean to smaller resort boats taking you to the hotel. All you need to remember is your luggage and what resort you are off to.
Due to the fact there is nothing but blue/green ocean around everything is organised for you including transportation, accomodation, food (which is made known with a banging of a drum) and activities.
To put you in the picture everywhere you visit you are greeted by a welcome bula dance and drink the ritual Kava (tastes a little like mud but is very repectful, you even have particular hand clap things you do).
So we began our trip starting with:
Oarsmand Resort on Nacula:
Here we spent 2nights which was lovely, we met a lovely couple Ben and Amy who worked and lived in Leeds (at Viva Cuba - random) also the hilarious J-Lo AKA Corrinna (who we later flew to LA with). WE had a lovely few days here, chilling by the beach, fishing (lol caught a gorgeous fish -she definately has the knack!) crab racing, beach bbqing and fijian dancing. One of the most memorable things we did was visit a fijian village. It was so humbling to meet the locals, visit 2 churches, the chiefs bure, a nursery (incredible) and a primary school where all the children performed songs for us which was fantastic.
We later on got the boat back to the big boat where we headed for our next destination:
Coral View on Tavewa:
We stayed one night here with a whole bunch of knew people including Americans Brett (pretsal) and Dave, Lindsay and Laura and the lovely Brummies. We chilled here, reading in the beach hammocks and more fijian dance!! Before we headed to:
Seaspray Resort on Nanuya Lei Lei:
Here was one of the most memorable times....but probably for the wrong reasons..... We got to meet up with the gorgeous Maz and Lauren (who we met on the mainland) as well as Andy (shaggy) and the lovely Vicky which was great however the resort had no electricity, random stinky roaming fijian dogs, dirty nappies on the floor and the dorm was nice but the locks didn't work which ultimatley enticed ROBBERS!!!! in the middle of the night we awoke to realise the girlies had had some money stolen whilst we was asleep- safe!!! The owner was most un-helpful and we knew that everyone was related on the island (6 fingers and all that) but once we got together with the Canadians who also had stuff stolen we managed to get the money back from the owner (who was married to his cousin!!) - bonus. It was all fun and games, thankfully we was there only one night before heading to:
Coconut Bay on Naviti:
This was one of our least favourite place to stay, water stopped running around 6pm as did the lights work properly - god job we have become accustomed to improvising after our travels!!
Anyway we got to catch up with Pretsal and Dave and then head off the following day for:
Wanataki Cruise:
This was a free night with our package, great food and great people including the Welsh and the jordies. Here we got to swim with Manter rays which was just incredible, swimming right along side them! Lol got to fish again. We played musical chairs, so close but yet so far and listern to Welsh Andy play on his guitar and the fijians on theres, not forgetting the Wanataki tune!!! it was wicked. The next day we hit:
Bounty Island:
We spent 2night here were they filmed Celebrity Love Island. It takes 20mintues to walk around the entire island, its practically the same as on the tv. The bar was our bar as was the pool, the love shack was the same but wreckt. We got to catch up with the American boys and girlies and Corrinnia. We also spent the best $10 on a head and neck massage here- nice. After here we got picked up to be taken across the waters to:
Beachcomber Island:
This is the party island, taking 10mins to walk around the entire island. It's famous for its 100bed dorm, great food, lovely beach, a fab bar and band. We arrived for them not to have us on there system - thanks....however this was not all bad. We got put into a $400 bura per night sharing with 2other southern girlies who provided us with a proper hair dryer and straightners.....when you have not used them for almost a year- amazing!!!
So here it was just incredible as everyone we had met all met up all knowing eachother. We had the best time. During the day we sunned it on the beach and by night we got wrekt. It was just like being on holiday!! Loved it.
After here we needed time to chill and that we did on Octopus Resort:
This was a beautiful resort, v fancy!! THE most amazing food, we enjoyed an hour long full body massage on the beach. A welcome Kava reception, once again!!and fun evening of games before a cocktail was needed and sleep.
The next day we headed back to the mainland for a massive reunion meal of 18 of us which was a great way to say goodbye. We then headed to the airport for a flight to...USA .... LA baby!!!!!!!
