We had another briefing at 7.45, and then loaded our stuff into the cars and trailers. Alice and Miriam had gone to the toilet and by the time they came out, the only seats not filled were the front two, and therefore Alice was the first driver. The mechanics that helped us yesterday saw her driving it out, and I think they were a bit worried.
On the way to the ferry, Luke- our very funny guide, who likes to make lots of rhymes in his speeches and give life philosophies, and reminds us slightly of Russell Brand- was the first one to get us stuck in the soft sand. It turned out that, even though he does this every week, this was the time it was most difficult to get the car out in the whole trip! There were some dolphins swimming by the ferry. The guy who worked there told us Alice to put the car in first gear, but it still wobbled around a lot, a bit worryingly. She forgot it was in gear at the end, and so when she started it, it bumped into the car in front.
First stop on the island was a fenced off eating area (you can't eat in open spaces as the dingoes eat scrap food and it makes them violent trying to get more) to eat beef and salad sandwiches (Alice had tuna). Then we went inland (along some very bumpy sand tracks) to Lake McKenzie, which is a freshwater lake with no rivers entering or leaving it, i.e. it's just rain water. If it had been sunnier, it would be the ideal beach as I much prefer fresh water to salt water, and the sand is 99% silica so was like the Whitehaven sand. Me and Alice set up a spa and exfoliated ourselves. Some of the boys followed the trend although I don't think some of them understood the point as they were exfoliating their hair. Luke had said you may get to see turtles if you go on the nude beach, which you had to walk on a board walk to get to, although the board walk was submerged in water to get to, but we didn't see any of the turtles, or nudies for that matter.
We got to stay at K'gari- an original aboriginal camp. Me and Alice shared a tent with Miriam. There was a kitchen and a 'night club' called Winki's (just a room with speakers you could hook up to your iPod) which was named after one of the pet dingoes that belonged to the aboriginals, until it had to get shot, along with all the other dingoes that got spotted on the island after a German got mauled when he was drunk. This was one of the many things that contributed to our idea that we'd hate white men if we were aboriginals. Roma is a chef so he made our Asian stir fry, whilst Marion helped him out. The fruit cake for dessert was very yummy, despite only being the 'Black and Gold' cheap brand. Then it was time to start the drinking games and let the fun begin!
