We both woke up quite early so we set off for a stroll to the nearest cash point (considering how touristy and relatively expensive things are you'd have thought there would be one nearer). However we had to ask for a lot of directions because the map was so rubbish and once we had got to it and followed the signs to the beach, discovered that one of our direction advisers had pointed us to a longer, and steeper uphill route, but at least we got some (very hot, very sweaty) exercise. We reenergised by having breakfast in the juice shack for some tasty smoothies and toast/porridge. We also got some buns to take on the coach tomorrow.
We did some sunbathing and became a beautiful madam! We still declined for a pineapple though as we didn't know how we were supposed to eat them and it was only when the Israeli man showed us a picture later that we found out they skinned them and put them on a skewer, like a lollipop.
We saw the Australian couple again and they introduced us to more of their friends at the juice shack where we had slightly naughtier ice cream type smoothies: Alice had Choco nutty with banana, chocolate, coconut, and peanut butter and I had Sharja with banana, chocolate and cardamom. We didn't really know what to do with ourselves for the remaining hour before our cookery course so went to coffee temple and had another drink (where we saw the Israelis).
We started off the cooking by chopping up vegetables- I didn't chop them up fine enough. Then we took it in turns to cook/write down the recipes which was a good way to do it as it'd be very hot to cook all six dishes in that heat over the intense flame! The chef didn't seem to be particularly nice to the partially blind kitchen hand (who helped with some of the preparation). After we finished, we sat at the table outside, feeling like right pigs with all this food between 2 of us (it was at that point I noticed on the sign you were supposed to share with friend). The banana bhajis were tasty although tasted more like potato, and they were served with an unidentifiable chutney. The vegetable biryani was really nice, and tasted quite fruity, and is served with a vegetable masala. I can't really remember what the jalfrezi tasted like as Alice had most of it, whilst I had the coconut and tomato fish (served in a banana leaf!) which was a bit bland and the fish wasn't great. The masala dosa was thicker than the one we have had served to us and it contained carrots as well as potatoes. The pudding was really nice- it was vermicelli pasta cooked in custard, a bit like rice pudding, topped with banana and coconut. A little American boy walked by and helped us eat a bit more (although we hope we didn't make him spoil his appetite as he was just about to go out for dinner with his dad). As we left they were signing up to do one.
