We got collected by our boat driver at 5.30 am for our sunrise boat ride along the Ganges. Given it's still foggy and misty, the sunrise wasn't very impressive and seeing the dead bodies burning wasn't anything new, it was just very cold! On the walk back we managed to get hold of a jar of Nutella for our rolls today! Yes!
The reception staff told us breakfast started at 8, and since we were up and I was hungry we were there at 8. The menu said it started at 7 but we were the only ones there and there was nothing out. The staff looked at us very weirdly for the 40 minutes or so that they brought out the food. About 5 different people checked every food container- they surely couldn't have thought we'd eaten all of one between the 2 of us! Eventually they took down our order of beans on toast, which we bulked up by eating cornflakes and French toast and I had a spicy falafel type thing, some rice, some couscous type thing pakoras and Indian bread. We got told off for helping ourselves to the juice on the table- apparently it was only for the wedding guests.
We ventured out again for water, toothpaste and to confirm our home stay booking for Kochi, then got taken to the train station to board the overnight train. We brought a newspaper for Rs 4 to sit on, and also to read as everything we've got to read is on our Kobo/Kindle. It didn't seem like a good idea to get these out on the platform.
Our compartment was shared with a couple with a pregnant wife, a very silent boy and an old couple. I had an upper booth and Alice had the middle one. During daylight hours trains are quite boring! Every time the "?-bread-omelet" man came past both me and Alice looked up, making him offer us one but we declined. We did buy some crisps though and filled our rolls with them and some Nutella. Cheryl Cole's Autobiography is a good read!
