Day 53
Wednesday 23Sept
1545(24Sept)
I got to work a little late yesterday, I got up at 7 intending on going for an hour run, but I was feeling really crook, so I ended up laying in bed for about 20 mins. I started to feel a bit better after 4 or 5 trips to the bathroom, threw my runners on and headed out the door. The run was great. I headed uphill for about 20 minutes and then straight back down, the run back taking only 16.
At home Gabi and Chris had prepared a big feed for breakfast. It was great. A heap of different breads, wurst and cheese. Plus a couple of different homemade jams and some honey. I ate so mucch and then christian and I spent about 20 minutes trading music. I didn’t leave for the office untill just after 9. It was only a 10 minute ride so I was less then half an hour late.
Work was pretty uneventful I didn’t have much to do. I spent the day trying to work out how to hire a car for this weekend. I’m renting a car to drive myself Kiki and Ioanna to Munich. I cant wait, driving on the wrong side of the road is gonna be awesome!! Our plan is to sleep in the car, but we’ll see how we go.
I left work at 5 with my pack on my back and walked down no Neue Technik station to meet my new host. A 19 year old student. Her names Yvette, her family also ran from Romania after the fall of communism, however even though they were from Romania they hare Hungarian. She is absolutely gorgous, a great funny girl.
We walked to her flat and dropped off our gear, she showed me to my room the bed looked awesome. I sat my gear on it and told her how cool I thought the painting was on the walls. “Yes, I like to paint the walls of MY room” she replied. She then pointed to the fold up mattress in the corner and explained that that was my bed. Haha.
We then walked to the supermarket and she told me how her and her family had traveled around eastern Europe for the first 10 years of her life, and that she doesn’t really have 1 nationality. Here I was staying with a Hungarian Gypsy. She also told me about how last semester she just got sick of University and decided to go traveling and couch surfing through the Balkans on her own, she’s probably the most free spirited person I’ve met, tis the life of a gypsy I suppose.
Back at the flat we started cooking the sausages we’de bought. More damn sausages and went and sat out side. Ioanna and kiki were coming around as well as Yvette’s fella, a guy called lucas, who works at the punt gamer brewery just out of town. A good bloke, I enjoyed talking to him, later Yvette informed me that he wasn’t too happy about me sharing a room with his girlfriend, although he was under the impression that we were sharing a bed.
The girls arrived, late as always, as this time they’de walked the wrong way and again got lost. We sat out the back drinking wine and chatting and once the wine had finished we got stuck into the Gin I’d bought duty free from the Dubai airport almost a month and a half ago. That made us all ridiculously sleepy and the girls left and I went to bed. I tried to read but was too tired and went to sleep. I didn’t even here Lucas leave or Yvette go to bed.
Day 54
Thursday 24Sept
1750
Todays been relaxing yet chaotic. I slept in till 1030, that means I got almost 10 hours sleep last night. But I sure needed it. That was apart from sometime in the middle of the night I woke up in a sweat. I was so hot. I lay there just laying on my sleeping bag liner sweating. Turns out Yvette has ducted heating under the floor of her room and this was the cause of my discomfort.
After slowly getting up and having coffee outside, Yvette and I went and jumped on a tram to go to a café she knew about on the other side of town. We went in there and spent 15 minutes of her translating the menu into English for me I made my selection and went to order. Only to be told that it was only for Saturday and Sunday morning. I ended up settling for a quiche, which was really decent and I was far from disappointed.
I parted with Yvette and went to go and get my bike from TU. I spoke with the girls quickly there and set of to try and get some quotes for a car to rent. That was great, it was really sunny and I was cruising around on my bike with my sunnies on, as well as my headphones music blaring. It was like being in a music film clip.
I got some quotes and headed back to TU. The car we’de wanted wasn’t available but we settled on a different but similar car. It would have to do. As I was having a day off Ioanna felt it was my duty to do her shopping, I reluctantly accepted and went up to the closest interspar, one of the local shopping centre chains. I spent about 10 minutes trying to find puff pastry, Ioanna wanted to make struddle for her collegues at work as it is her birthday on Saturday.
I eventually asked for some help from the non English speaking staff, asking for the outside of the struddle. She kind of looked at me funny and just walked away. I stood there for a bit not really knowing what was going on. Not long after another of her collegues returned, she spoke a little English and pointed me in the right direction. Over here they sell the pasrty in sheets but rolled, as opposed to flat back home, and I was pretty sure I was buying the whole struddle not just the pastry. I grabbed a couple of different types hoping that one of the was what Ioanna was after. Turns out they were all exactly what Ioanna was after and she know has way too much.
I got home at about 440 and immediately set out for a run, I was feeling really good and ran for half an hour up the Mur. The only downer was right before half way a bug flew into my eye, half staggering as I slowed I almost crashed into two other joggers, I eventually got the thing out of my eye and finished the run, still feeling the repucutions of the bugs antics scratched into my eye.
Back here at home I’m sitting outside at the table in the back yard in my shorts, while Yvette is copying down poems to stick on her wall. I’m keeping myself amused watching the bugs, obviously curious about my odour flying towards me and landing on my skin, only to try to take off again to find out that they are stuck in my sweat. A gorgeous picture I know. I feel no pitty, one of there brothers tried to take my eye out.
1340(25Sept)
Last night after having a quick shower Yvette and I got stuck into the remaining Gin while we waited for lucas. She’s such a funny girl, a real gypsie at heart.
By the time he got there about 2 hours later there was little left, yet we had a couple more drinks and headed off. We went to a cool little café not far from Yvette’s here they do really nice pizza’s except you get to pick the toppings. There is a series of cards and you tick what you want, the standard is cheese and tomato paste plus you get the four toppings of your choice, they even had snail as a choice of topping. I got one with Brie, ham, something and hot pepperoni. It was a really spicy pizza, and I was reminded of it this morning in the bathroom. Another great picture, I swear I’ve done permanent damage to my sfinkter.
After we ate I died. I became so lethargic, I have no idea why. At home we had some honey on chocolate cake and soon after I went to bed. I was b*****ed. I didn’t even here Lucas and Yvette go to bed.
