We packed up the camper trailer this morning and left it at the Heartbreak Hotel campground in Cape Crawford, where we had stayed last night. We then drove 120km of dirt road to see the Southern Lost City (photo) in the Limmen NP. It was well worth the drive. There are a few "lost city" sites around northern Australia but most are only accessible by helicopter. The 'city' pillars are made of Limestone and have been formed over millions of years. We did a 2.5km walk around the 'city'. We met some people leaving as we arrived; then we were the only people there for 2 hours - we felt privileged to be walking amongst such beauty. I keep getting the sense that many of the wonders we have seen this trip will be protected and less accessible in the near future.
After returning to cape Crawford and collecting the trailer, we headed south 100km down the Tablelands Hwy, a single lane tar-seal road that travels through some of the most scenic landscapes. We saw lots of wildlife along this stretch of road - A wedge-tailed eagle, Brolgas, Australian Bustards, a huge 2 to 2.5m snake on the road (that Jeff drove over!), wallabies, dozens of birds of prey and many other birds.
I had rarely seen snakes in the wild before this trip; however in Kakadu I think we saw one every day, and each one a different type.
