Island hoping was the plan for the day at railay and a nice early start to get the long tail boat at the docks. All the islands we were seeing today were uninhabited but expectedly full of tourists. After arriving at poda island for a quick dip and picture stop we headed to chicken island (named because of the rock that looks like a chicken head) for some snorkelling. The first time either of us had snorkelled and it was unbelievably good. A few more stops and a very good thai green curry and the day was done.
After falling in love with railay and seeing all it has to offer we headed to our next stop Ko Lanta and island south of us. We arrived via a frustratingly confusing journey and met some incredibly rude thai individuals (plus a familiar face from Worcester). After checking in and have a bite to eat and some beers, bed called for a day of exploring tomorrow.
So we rented a motorbike and explored the island on two wheels, checking out beaches, viewpoints, old lanta town and the sea gypsy village, and even found a bar to watch the World Cup final (even if kick off was at 2am).
The viewing of the final was interesting to say the least. In a tiny little bar called the Irish Embassy, which was owned and ran by a group of English and Irish guys we cracked open the Changs and waited for the game to start. With 45 mins to kick off the island was hit by a storm knocking out the electricity. Fear not as the bar had a generator so with the electricity back on we soon found out that the signal was down due to the storm.
After a lot of worrying from the owners the signal booted in with 10 to go and the rest of the night when swimmingly. A nice little end to our time on ko lanta, despite getting back at 5am (we were being picked up at 7.30am for our ferry to Phi Phi the same morning). Oh dear!
