So after giving the north of Thailand a good go we decided to head for the beaches of the south. Getting a good deal on night trains and flights we set off for about 26 hours worth of travelling to the port town of Krabi.
After a much needed sleep in a real bed we got a suspect longboat to Railay beach, not quite an island but cutoff from the rest of Thailand giving that impression of island life.
As soon as we could dump our bags we hit up one of the four beaches of Railay (even though one beach is essentially a port). With blue sky's and blue, warm sea it was the first really time I think we both thought we had 'escaped.'
Day two involved more beaches, this time Phangan Caves which is without a doubt the best beach I've ever been on (Emma disagrees but it's a close second). Sea warm and shallow enough to walk out for what seems like miles and a long stretch of golden sand, not like the crap you get on Tour at Lloret, perfection. Plus the best weather we'd had all trip. A day lazing around the beach and checking out what else was on offer lead us to something we both we're hoping to avoid...horrendous sunburn.
As many of you have seen from Facebook I have been rocking a pretty impressive vest tan until the burn set in. With both of us a shade
of red even Alex Murphy would be proud of, day two was very much a stay out the sun day. More exploring and a hike up/rock climb up to the view point of railay (where the blog picture was taken) plus lounging on the beach (or hiding in the shade if your Kynton) and day sailed by. This really is the good life. Next up a day of snorkelling and island hopping then moving onto
Ko Lanta, if we ever leave...
