On Thursday we headed to Pai... A small town 3hours from Chiang mai! We arrived their in the afternoon and found some cheap accommodation for the night! This adventure was only intended for a night out in a place come truly different from both Bangkok and Chiang Mai and ever way possible... And different it was!
Without minutes of arriving we were both a bit mesmerised by the place. A tiny town of 2000 people with only really two main streets and a local population made up of Thai Muslims, Thai Rastas and backpackers.
We checked into a cheap and dodgy looking guesthouse and decided to check out the semi famous walking streets of pai, where we browsed and ate some street food and waffles with Nutella on...
After that we found a local cocktail bar and bought our first drinks of the night, a Sangsom and redbull and a blue margarita! Now we only planned on having a few drinks but after the alcohol started flowing it was all down hill from there. We moved onto a reggae bar and after a few buckets of Sangsom and a few shots in our merry state we got speaking to complete strangers from all over.
The next thing I remember was being behind the bar in another reggae bar with two Rastafarian bartenders. It was safe to say the night was a success, the next day however not so much. Four hours late for check out and horrendously hungover we left the guesthouse of doom and tried to get a bus Back to chaing mai. After around an hour of travelling on the minibus Emma decided to repaint the floor of the van a lovely raspberry colour by spewing up all over the place, such a classy bird! (In my defence I don't even think this was because of the alcohol, I definitely blame the rocky journey through the mountains, I can normally handle a hangover a lot better than that, however it didn't feel great feeling though I was on a roller coaster for three hours after consuming buckets of alcohol, doesn't mix well at all).
After a quick pit stop and some help off some Thai guys we were back on route. On arrival in chiang mai we found all the home comforts a hangover needed, mcdonalds, subway and a place called Hurry Curry that I'm now a big fan of. On checking back in to our shipping container hotel (its an actual shipping container not a joke) we chowed down, skyped home and passed out in a hungover mess during the Germany France game, perfection.
Our last day in chaing mai was essentially a day of organising. From doing washing to booking transport (and writing Arsey emails to the ever incompetent STA travel, WARNING do not use their travel cash card) we were ready to move on. A final stop to check out the crazy chiang mai Saturday market where the city comes to life with street food and art, it was officially time to leave chiang mai and the north of Thailand.
