Well the scenery in New Zealand didn't disappoint. Definitely feels like your in the set of Lord of the Rings, snow tipped high mountain passes with long flat valleys in between. Very pretty!
Our first stop over was lake Tekapo, a massive natural lake hidden away amongst the mountains! I don't think we could've asked for better weather clear blue sky's and fairly warm in the sun.! Giving some stunning views with the reflection from the lakes! However clear sky's in winter generally mean cold nights.! And sure enough it was freezing in the van... seeing your breath when you wake up is not really something you should see inside.. had to defrost the windows in the morning as well.
Several times found myself having to climb through the small gap at the front to get to the drivers seat and turn the engine and heaters on. Just to take the frost off the van till the sun finally hits.
Beautiful driving through these high mountain passes and just come across hidden lakes. Took us 45minutes to drive along and up.
Cleanest blue colour.. natural water seeping down from the mountains.
The glacier was a bit of an anticlimax. Here's me expecting a massive crystal clear frozen block of ice at the base of the mountain.. when actually it was a merky brown from all the rock sediment that had dissolved into the ice. Still the views around the lake and the glacier were amazing and well worth the detour to Mt Cook.! But the camera just doesn't capture the colours and shadings of the hills and just doesn't do the scenery justice!
