Byron bays definitely a major hippy town.! The small town was full of long haired stoners who as a tradition whip out a few set of drums along the beach at sunset and dance/hop around waving their arms around imitating the waves.. funny sight to see.!
The tour we had booked for Byron bay was a bus trip to a small town called Nimbin. Now the bus that rocked up was an old American school bus with horrendous seats. And the suspension was even worse. Think it had been worn down over the years and just fused together..! Considering there was a group of English lads at the back, every time we went over a sizeable bump we all took off. Made for an interesting journey.! Now our tour guide for the day was an interesting fella to say the least. He'd been running these tours for 22 years and had some pretty interesting stories to tell. From people passing out at the front of the bus and sleeping the whole journey to a group of police officers on a stag due getting super high and throwing the groom out in nothing but his socks out in a puddle and leaving him.. Now I thought Byron bay was a hippy town.. it's got nothing on Nimbin. Every other person there had dreadlocks and vibrant tie dye tshirts and three shops along the Main Street with canabis leaves decorating the front. The town was pretty sketchy with some odd people roaming around but definitely an experience to remember! After the town jimmy took us to this beautiful national park and cooked us all a decent BBQ. He warned us of birds coming down and taking our food. And sure enough one stole a sausage straight out of Danny's hand.. cheeky b*****.!
The next day we hired some mountain bikes and went around the coastline for a few hours. One of the View points was Byron lighthouse and I've never know a gradient like it. It felt near vertical going up completely running out of gears.. felt pretty ill by the time I reached the top. But was well worth the pain.! Amazing views of the bay and further along the coast!
