Kya Travels
After sleeping in again, we went across the road to Itaipú where we got a juice and a crepe and a quiche for lunch, then went for a walk into the city centre and went back to the guitar shop. We explained to the guy there about the strings and asked him if he could change them to steel strings for us, then went to go for a walk while he did that. We walked up the main shopping streets where we went into a bunch of shops so I could buy some clothes that would be suitable to wear in Morocco next week! After about 50 billion shops I had a pair of light loose pants and a little cardigan thing and I was well and truly over shopping!! We rewarded ourselves by stopping in a little shop called Amorefrato for an ice cream each. There was no one there when we got there, so we had a bit of a chat to the waiters while we had our ice cream. The place apparently only opened a week ago, and the owner made the ice cream himself in the basement. While we were there, the place went from being absolutely empty to brim full of people and a massive line to the door! After that we went back to the music shop and picked up the guitar, as well as having quite a weird conversation with an old guy there who didn't speak any English. But it was ok, cos we had a little drum sesh with him! So with our new guitar, we headed back to the hostel and chilled out for a bit and met our new room mates, Flo and Pancho, who were from Germany. They told us that there were riots in Morocco at the moment and they had been told by their embassy not to go there! And we were supposed to be there in a few days!! So I spent a bit of time there using the wifi to look it up and emailing the tour company and that, and didn't find too much. There was a riot in Rabat about some Spanish prisoners who had been pardoned, but the rioting was minimal and mostly peaceful and in an area we weren't visiting, so I was still happy to go ahead with Morocco. We went up to the balcony on the roof with Pancho and Flo where we finished off our bottle of wine from the other day and played a bit of guitar together, then organized to get dinner together. We went back to the Cafe Piolho D'Ouro that we had gone to the other day, and had some dinner and more wine. After our meals, there was a guy on the table next to us trying to smash a glass... So obviously Darren had to talk to him! Apparently he had been given an 'unbreakable' glass, and was trying to test the theory! He was literally smashing it and stomping on it on the ground. Pretty funny! After chatting with him and his friends for a bit (there were about 6 or 7 of them), they joined their table with ours and we had a good chat with them for a while. The guy, Nuno, was telling us about a place around the corner that had beers for 50 cents and invited us along with them, so we fixed up our bill and walked down to Adega Leonor. And sure enough, the beers were 50 cents! Amazing! We stayed there for a few drinks, then Pancho and Flo left to get some jackets. When they came back we went to order some drinks for the road as the Portuguese guys were ready to go to the next pub. Pancho didn't understand what was happening at first, and looked heartbroken as he asked Darren "It's over?". Hilarious. His face brightened up when we explained we were going to the next pub and just getting beers for the road! We followed them back to the street that our hostel is on, where all the pubs were going off and it pretty much looked like a street party, people were everywhere just drinking on the streets! We had many more drinks and I had a half hour conversation with one of the girls, Elia, about kangaroos and koalas! We drank beers, Sangria, Caipirinhas and Favaítos! Then we went into one of the pubs where we had some more drinks and did some awesome stupid dancing and just generally got a bit silly! Flo and I got in trouble for 70s dancing on chairs, then we went outside where we got some silly photos with an ambulance that was there, then eventually we headed back up to the hostel and went to bed.
