Kya Travels
After our 20 minute sleep, we got up, woke Lyle, who was sleeping in a puddle of spew... Then headed downstairs to wait for him to get up. I had been quite clear we needed to leave by 5.30 at the latest, but Lyle was still mucking around in the toilets doing who-knows-what... Probably spewing... So Darren yelled in the door that we were leaving, and he came out. We checked out, and walked down to the tube, Lyle trudging behind us. We topped up our Oyster card, and went down to the platform, where the train was waiting to leave. But Lyle was mucking around at the ticket machine, so we missed it... So annoying! So we had to wait, which wasn't so bad because they said they come every 10 minutes, but we waited half an hour until a lady came to tell us the platform had changed... So we ran over to another platform and just missed the next train. A couple of trains later and one of the conductors told us to go back to the platform we were on and get on the train that was there! So we ran back again, and got on the train. Lyle decided he'd just walk, and not hurry though, so he very nearly missed that one too! If we had missed that, we would have missed the flight... We eventually got to Victoria station, when I realised we had booked the wrong date for our airport express train... So we had to line up and buy new tickets. By this stage I was getting seriously worried. We got our tickets, jumped on the next train, and made our way to Gatwick, where we checked in and went through security. Darren got stopped for having a deodorant can that was too big, so we were held up again, then pretty much power walked/ran to the gate where we were the last people to board. If we were literally five minutes later, we would have missed it. Needless to say, we were already annoyed at Lyle, now we were fuming! Lucky we had booked our flights separately, so we weren't sitting with him, or we may just have killed him!! I got a few hours sleep on the plane, then we landed in Tromso, Norway! We got some money out, then went to find a bus. The airport bus wasn't going to be there for another hour or more, so we walked down the street a bit, where I found the public bus stop, and we jumped on that. Darren and I were sitting next to this really nice guy on the bus, who was pointing out different things along the route for us, which was pretty cool and exciting. We got off in the city centre, and walked up the street and up a massive hill, which kept getting steeper and steeper, ending with some steep stairs through a park, which our hotel was situated at the top of. We checked in, then collapsed into bed for a sleep! When we woke up, Darren and I went for a walk to find some dinner. We walked around the streets for a bit looking at menus and trying to work out the conversion to the Norwegian Kroner, and went into a restaurant called Peppes Pizza. Now, I know I've been told countless times that Norway is expensive, but Norway is EXPENSIVE! It worked out to be about $20 Australian for a small pizza, and $7 for a coke! So we just got a couple of starters to share, and drank water! It was enough to fill us up though. On the way back, we stopped at a convenience store and picked up a couple of apples and a packet of chips, then headed back to the hotel. I had a shower, and we just hung in the room watching TV. I started a little project where I wanted to take a photo at each hour, to see the midnight sun, then we just watched TV and went to sleep... In the daylight of 2am!
